MRS. MOLITOR'S READING CORNER
Our book for February is “Barak Obama of Thee I Sing”.
Our book for the month of February is a beautiful letter President Barack Obama wrote for his daughters. This book is about the potential within each of us to pursue our dreams and forge our own paths. It celebrates the characteristics that unite all Americans, from our nation’s founders to the generations to come.
SPECIALIST SNIP-ITS
MEDIA:
January has been a busy month in Media!
Kindergarteners continued working in CodeSpark and learned how loops can help them repeat actions in their coding. They also learned the difference between fiction and nonfiction books and are now able to check out from the Nonfiction shelf in our library if they choose.
1st and 2nd graders have been continuing to work in CodeSpark. They learned how to use loops in their coding to repeat actions. We have also been continuing to read the Star of the North nominated picture books. We have a couple more to read and then they will get to vote on their favorite!
3rd graders continued their lessons in Code.org with learning about Events in coding and how they can be used to create interactive games. We also did a lesson about The Power of Words and cyberbullying and how their words online can affect others.
4th graders continued their lessons in Code.org with learning about Conditionals in coding and how they can be used to make some of their code run only under certain conditions. We also did a lesson about The Power of Words and cyberbullying and how their words online can affect others.
5th graders continued their lessons in Code.org with learning about Nested Loops which can help simplify your code when multiple actions are being repeated.
MUSIC:
K-5 music has started the work to bring Minnesota Opera to Glendale. We are learning songs and learning a lot about opera! Through the generosity of our PTC, Minnesota Opera will be coming in March 2-6 to teach all students at Glendale about opera, and the residency will conclude with a performance on Friday which will be live-streamed for families! Kindergarten has been working hard on learning about high and low, along with learning how our xylophones and glockenspiels work, by taking them apart and putting them together. 1st grade has been working on singing sol-mi-la through singing games. 2nd grade has been working on their May concert songs, along with finishing up instrument families. 3rd grade learned where do-mi-sol-la are on the musical staff, and they worked on their concert songs for our Music of the World show in May. 4th grade started recorders, and 5th graders continue their work on ukuleles!
ART:
In February, we’re starting more clay projects! Owls, pinch pots, maybe a monster?
PHY ED:
Hello Glendale Families! January has flown by! We were busy working in the Gym. We concentrated on jump ropes for the first week back after the New Year. Then we moved to our floor hockey unit!! We ended the floor hockey unit with our 1st annual Champion’s Day for grades 3-5. Some of the younger grades came to cheer on the hockey teams, it was a very exciting atmosphere.
GEOGRAPHY BEE
Congratulations to the 4th and 5th grade students who participated in the Geography Bee
on January 15th. A great audience of 4th and 5th grade students, parents,

Please help to make sure your child is prepared for outdoor recess each day!
**IMPORTANT: BE SURE TO LABEL YOUR CHILD’S JACKET, MITTENS, HAT, SNOW PANTS, AND BOOTS TO HELP PREVENT THEM FROM GETTING LOST!!
