In Chapter 8, we will count money. Students will identify the names and values of each coin and then add a combination of coins to show the sum. We will continue to practice problem solving skills with addition and subtraction word problems.

Students will continue studying facts by heart. Fact Quizzes will be on Thursdays.

Language Arts

In Reading, students will continue to monitor meaning by asking questions before, during and after they read. They will ask the 5 W's and the H. (Who? What? When? Where? Why? and How?) Students will also begin to determine the central idea of a text and locate supporting details.

In Word Study, we continue to study high frequency words and spelling patterns.

In writing, students will write New Years Resolutions for 2016 on a flip book.

2= Name two books you would like to read in the New Year

0= Write something you would like to try to stop doing

1= Write 1 idea of how you could make school or the world a better place

6= List 6 Goals for the New Year; things that you would like to do or learn

We will also review examples of figurative language and then students will begin to write examples of their own.

In Science, we will begin a new unit on weather. Each student will have the opportunity to be the "Meteorologist for the Day" by sharing the weather forecast at morning meeting for our class. Please assist your child on their day to prepare the forecast.
