A Note From Principal Jeff Brandt
It is hard to believe that we are through the first quarter of the school year already. As we move into November, we also move into an extremely busy time of the school year. Fall activities are winding down and winter activities are gearing up. Over the next two months as a school system there are also several off-days. Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving break, and Christmas break are all on the horizon. We have had a great first quarter and we want to encourage our students to continue to make Dickinson High School a great place to be.
Believe it or not, we are also at the point of the school year where conversations about NEXT school year begin. Discussions around registration, scheduling, and everything that goes along with that will be in full-swing shortly. Because Dickinson Public Schools has continued to see increasing enrollment, Dickinson High School has continued to see growth. Currently, we have students housed in four buildings on campus, Dickinson State University, Roughrider Virtual Academy (online) and Dickinson Middle School. Educating students in so many different environments does present some challenges around safety and scheduling.
Over the course of the next 4-6 weeks, we will be conducting surveys of students, staff, and parents so that we can understand how to best meet our students’ needs within the reality of our current facility situation. Your honest, constructive feedback is a necessary part of the process to continue to improve our educational environment.
I want to emphasize that we have had a great start to the school year. Students and staff have been excellent to work with. The building environment has been positive, collaborative, and energizing. Thank you for your continued support of our educators and students!
Jeff Brandt

National Honor Society
The Dickinson High School National Honor Society has started this year with many outstanding service activities! I would like to highlight a few of our recent events:
On October 30th, we hosted our second annual Trunk or Treat in the DHS student parking lot. It was a great success with over 30 students involved, and a full line of trick or treaters for two hours.
Our tie blanket committee recently made tie blankets to supply our law enforcement emergency vehicles. The purpose of this is to stock each vehicle with a supply of blankets for children that they might come in contact with through various situations.
Lastly, our reading committee is actively working with DPS elementary schools to bring high school scholars into their classrooms to read and interact with elementary students to show importance of academics in their lives. Our year has started off with a blast and our committees are planning more community and volunteer events during the holiday season and beyond. Be on the lookout for the NHS students doing great things in our school and community.

Financial Aid/FASFA Night
Financial Aid/FAFSA Night is at Dickinson State University on Wednesday, November 9th. The presentation will provide information about how to get financial aid for college.
We encourage Junior and Senior DHS students to attend! It will be held in the DSU Beck Auditorium, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm
Dickinson High School Talent Show.
DHS Student Council will be hosting a talent show on Monday, November 14th, at 7pm.
The event will showcase the many talents walking the hallways of Dickinson High School. This show is expected to provide many laughs and much entertainment! It will be held in the DHS auditorium and is free to anyone who wishes to attend.
Freshman Academy
“Seventy percent in life is just showing up!” Woody Allen said. And, our freshmen class has done showing up in style.
The students are full of life and energy. They are giving the teachers plenty of reasons to love teaching. And, they are challenging the teachers who are using their best practices.
With fall sports winding down and the days growing darker, the update for this month’s Freshmen Academy points towards the Academy Expo where we get to make a first impression on the next years freshmen. We are planning some engaging activities and excited for that event.

Door Dash
Students have been frequently using the delivery app called Door Dash. For safety reasons, we ask you to please inform your student that they are NOT allowed to have the delivery drivers enter the building. There is a space in the app where they can enter notes to the driver. Please have them request for the drivers to either meet them outside or to leave their order outside of the doors.
As stated in the Student Handbook, all deliveries must be done during their lunch period. Students are not allowed to leave class to pick up their order.
