Sacred Heart School
Week of April 9th
If you're anything like me, you're feeling the Sunday Blues.
However, one fun thing to do is to reflect on the fact that we are entering into the FINAL Quarter of what has been a wildly successful year.
Just in case you've forgotten.. here's some of the things we've ALREADY accomplished this year -
#1 - TEAM WORK - We have great teams working together throughout the building. We've been meeting consistently and working together to strengthen our practice together.
#2 - Collaboration - Our learning groups have taken on a new life as we've taken on new initiatives like STEM, Technology Integration, and more intentional Journaling.
#3 - Technology Integration- We're using new and better tools to personalize learning - from Reading A to Z to Newsela to ALEKS to Envisions to Kidblog to Quizlet. Our new tools are designed to meet students where they are!
#4 - Specials - Our Art, Music, Tech, and PE team continues to work together with our teaching team to plan and implement new lessons for students!
#5 - Project Zero connection - we continue to be closely connected to research from the Harvard Graduate School of Education- whether it's through our commitment to creating a culture of thinking... to using thinking routines in our work... to documenting learning... to building a makerspace... or our participation in on-going PD and projects like Children Are Citizens.
#6 - Spanish Immersion - Our Spanish immersion program continues to gain steam and strength - from PK3 all the way through 8th grade. Our students are reading, writing, and thinking more... in TWO LANGUAGES.
#7 - Partnering with Parents - We're sending out more emails, pictures, and s'mores than ever before. We know our parents well and are reaching out to partner with them in the education of their children.
#8 - Field Trips - We continue to make use of our city - from short trips like Rock Creek Park or the library to long trips like the Museums and Movies!
#9 - Fundraising - We've worked together to raise money this year and have been able to upgrade our office furniture, Science Lab, and Cafeteria!
#10 - Last, but certainly not least, FAITH - We're working together to create new events, like the Washing of the Feet or making sandwiches for the homeless, and strengthening our existing programs, like Sacramental Preparation. We've done more service, from 2nd grades partnership with Stoddart to 8th grades experiences with the L'Arche community.
.. I can think of a few more too .. like the many cultural experiences we've had this year.. but that would take us past 10! (& I highly doubt most of you are still reading at this point... but alas.... I will continue... )
Let's continue to work towards finishing this year strong! We've got a couple great events coming up with that will highlight our culture, our faith, and our deep commitment to teaching young children!
