Meet Oakley!
Due to the record-breaking amount of money raised in the raffle this year, our PTA was able to donate the money to purchase our dog without affecting any of the other planned and approved programs and activities for the remainder of the school year.
THANK YOU all for your support!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING TRANSPORTATION
School districts across the country continue to face a critical shortage of transportation staff and the same is true in WLCSD. After weeks of diligently reorganizing routes and redeploying staff, our partners at Dean Transportation informed us of the unfortunate reality that we would need to cancel several bus routes this week, November 8-12. While we deeply regret the imposition this creates for our families, we acknowledge these cancellations were necessary to safely provide transportation services to as many of our WLCSD families as possible.
Due to the nationwide shortage of workers, these bus route cancellations will unfortunately be with us for the next few weeks. Out of fairness to the families already impacted by this week’s cancellations, we will be cancelling different routes each week throughout the District to help share the burden this unfortunate situation creates.
Starting next week, November 15-19, the following buses/route will be cancelled at Oakley Park:
Bus 129 - St. Patrick to Walnut Creek MS Shuttle, Walnut Creek MS, Oakley Park EL
Please note, ALL students who have specialized transportation plans that are contained in an IEP will NOT see a disruption in service.
For those families impacted by these temporary cancellations who need childcare assistance, please contact our fee based Prime Time Care office at 248-956-5110 for more information on availability.
Visit www.wlcsd.org for more information!
UPDATE: ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
PLEASE continue to be respectful and safe:
1. Eliminate ALL distractions during the dismissal time (phone call and/or texting)
2. Be aware of your "space" pulling up whenever possible (this allows us to load more students and can help relieve the overflow of cars out on to Oakley Park Road.)
3. Under NO circumstance should the bus loop/parking area be used during arrival or dismissal.
ARRIVAL:
Due to the cancelation of the bus 129 route this week, and in anticipation of the possible of more cancellations, we will NOT be marking students who have access to Walled Lake bussing tardy. We trust our families will continue to make every effort to get their children to school safely, as close to the start of the school day as possible.
DISMISSAL:
We will begin dismissal at 3:45 as we anticipate an increase of families using Owl Pick Up and/or signing out students at the end of school day. If you would like to register for Owl Pick please email Kim Waling KimberlyWaling@wlcsd.org *Walkers and Prime Time care call down continues to be at 3:56 pm.
Oakley Park Celebrates Veteran's Day!
We are thankful for the service of so many...past and present.

Parent/Teacher Conference Information
Conference Sign Up will open in Family Access at 7:00 am, Wednesday, November 17th.
A strong partnership with parents/guardians and teachers is key to ensuring our children’s success. One important component of that partnership is parent/teacher conferences. This is an opportunity for us to meet, celebrate your child’s progress, and discuss goals for continued growth.

After students are dismissed, teachers will be available for virtual conferences throughout the afternoon and evening until 8:00 p.m. Teachers will share a Zoom link with families prior to December 9.
Parents and guardians can sign-up for parent/teacher conferences using Skyward Family Access. Online sign-up for conferences opens on Monday, November 17 at *approximately* 7:00am and closes on December 6.

National PTA Reflections Contest
The Oakley Park PTA is encouraging all of our Owls to participate in this year’s PTSA Reflections program! Our theme this year is “I Will Change the World By...”. Students can enter what their interpretation of the theme means to them through music composition, literature, film production, dance choreography, photography, or visual arts. The best part of Reflections is that it is free to enter! All you need to do provide is your creativity! Students can enter up to one piece per category. A celebration will be held for all students that enter the Reflections competition in the spring.
If you need a little inspiration or help brainstorming, check out this video: https://youtu.be/r1BkCQkRwNs
Please read the rules (listed below) prior to submitting your work to ensure all the requirements are met. The Student Entry Form must be fully filled out and turned in with the final product. On the entry form, it asks for an artist statement. When writing the artist statement, consider the following:
How does your work relate to the theme?
What is your personal connection to the theme?
What did you use to create your work (supplies, technology, instrumentation, props, etc.)?
What/Who was your inspiration?
Keep in mind the artist statement accounts for a large part of the scoring!
Entries due November 29, 2021
Visit the Oakley Park PTA Website for more information and entry forms.
