STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Students Get Musical in Coding Class
Students in Coding class learned how to create a piano app using the App Inventor Blocks Editor. Brandon Beswick, 7th grade Coding student, is shown playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the device. By creating a useful and fun app, this activity offered students a positive perception of programming.

EHT Secondary Choral Festival
On Wednesday, the 6th-8th grade Chorus students took part in our annual EHT Secondary Choral Festival. They spent the day in the Fernwood auditorium rehearsing with EHTHS Choir Director Mr. Dale Roeck and the Alder Chorus. That evening, in collaboration with the Alder and High School choirs, they performed under the direction of Mr. Roeck, Mr. Guerrasio, and Rowan University Director of Choral Activities Dr. Christopher Thomas.
Bill of Rights Lesson
Mrs. Yaffee's students learned about the Bill of Rights in class this week! The Bill of Rights refers to the first 10 Amendments. The Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution to protect individuals rights. Students read different scenarios and had to decide if their rights were being violated or not. Then students had to identify which specific amendment protected them from that scenario.
Rational Numbers
In Mr. Goodwin’s classes this week, students explored positive and negative numbers on the number line and ordering. To wrap up the week, classes participated in a “no-holds barred” review game on Gimkit. Many of the students scored well above 95% accuracy during the 10 minute game. The winners of the class competitions were: Beyonce Matos (Avengers), Cooper Olivieri (Mystics), and Dylan Guzman (Guardians). Congrats to all the students that competed and showed true mastery of rational numbers.
Reading Buddies Trip to Home Depot
Two of our Fernwood students participated in a life skills trip to Home Depot, as part of the district's monthly Reading Buddies program. Students were given a tour of the store, they learned how keys are made, how paint is mixed and expanded their vocabulary. Each student used a hammer and nails to build their own little planter. They even received personalized Home Depot aprons. Students enjoyed meeting a Deaf employee of the store that communicated with them using sign language throughout the tour. He also assisted the students with their building projects. It was a great experience for our students.
