JAGUAR UPDATE
Sunset Valley Elementary 3/10/17
Jaguar Corner
Hello, Jaguar Nation!
- Our thoughts and prayers are with the students and families in Oak Grove affected by the Tornado this week! #pantherpride
- Our first graders sang beeeeeyuuuuteeeefulll last night! Thanks to Mrs. Freeborn, Mrs. Thurmond, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Paul, Mrs. Morris, and our fantastic parents for their help!
- During the month of April, our kids in grades 3-6 will take the MAP test. As educators, we recognize that this is a 'snap shot' of our kids on that particular day of testing. However, we also recognize it is important to do our personal best. In some instances, school has not changed a lot since you and I were students in school. (We still call a pencil, a pencil. A ruler is still called a ruler. Contrary to what you might hear...ha!) The types of tests our kids take and the kinds of questions they are asked to answer are a little different. Below are the types of questions our kids are answering on the state assessment and other local assessments:
The Grade-Level Assessments include multiple types of questions or items:
- Selected Response (also known as multiple choice) items are composed of a question followed by a series of possible responses. Students must select the correct response or responses.
- Constructed Response or Short Text items require students to supply an appropriate response rather than making a selection from a list of choices.
- Performance Tasks/Events allow students to work through more complicated items using real-world scenarios. (Basically, an essay.)
- Technology Enhanced items make use of technology in the presentation of the item, the ways in which students respond, or both. For example, students might listen to a story and then drag and drop labels into a diagram, or click on specific parts of a text to provide a response.

Major Saver Fundraiser Update
THANK YOU for your help and support of the Major Saver Fundraiser. Thanks to the SVE community, SVE fund raised over $3500! This is a little over $1000 more than the previous year. These monies will help replenish funds spent this year, and provide an opportunity to purchase supplies and technology improvements for next year. Thanks so much!
