Alternate Friday
We will continue having two alternate Fridays per month and we will have specific checklist that we will use to guide us on those two days:
1. K-Data Checklist
2. K-Planning Day Checklist
We will be constructing our October spreadsheet during our Alternate Friday planning time. Please bring your Istation classroom summary to build this spreadsheet. If you have already completed this spreadsheet we will need to go further and learn to export individual reports for each skill that is assessed-phonemic awareness, vocabulary, letter knowledge. This will give your interventionist direction on what skills need to be focused on every month. We will also go in and practice adding intervention notes.

Guided Reading Lessons will need to be put into our guided reading notebooks. NOTEBOOKS ARE HERE!
Teachers we will need to build guided reading notebooks. The required components of the guided reading notebook are:
Lesson Plans for each reading group for each guided reading lesson. The Lesson Plan should include the skill and lesson the teacher will work with, the book to be read, 3-4 target vocabulary words from the book and several questions to check comprehension. Question stems from Bloom’s flip chart or questions from Journeys’ resources can be used. I have shared several lesson plan samples that you can either use or get ideas from. Then again you may already have a great guided reading lesson plan template that you are using.
Tab for each student in their classroom. Teachers will collect running records, anecdotal records, work samples, etc. behind the student’s tab. These should be ready at a moment’s notice for parent conferences!
- Data (Istation) will be collected and stored in the guided reading notebook.
- Resources tab to include absolutely anything else you would like to have at your fingertips.
As DOI and Mr. James walk through classrooms and see teachers doing reading groups, they will want to see the components mentioned above in the lesson plan section – a good skills lesson, books ready to pass out to students, good and informative picture walks, vocabulary development, oral reading and questioning afterwards. All students need to read at the same time while at the reading table. Every minute is valuable and students sitting and waiting for their turn is not getting us the biggest bang for our buck. They need to be reading!!!
I know this is A LOT but we can start tomorrow and maybe finish up on Monday afternoon.
