COUNSELOR'S CORNER!
Hello Brimfield Families,
We hope this newsletter finds you and your family in good health and high spirits. As partners in your child's education, we are excited to share some valuable insights and tips on helping you teach goal setting to your little ones. Instilling this important skill at an early age can set them up for success in various aspects of life.
Goal setting is a powerful tool that helps children develop a sense of purpose, motivation, and determination. By encouraging them to set goals, you empower them to take charge of their own growth and progress. Here are some simple yet effective strategies to guide your child towards effective goal setting:
Start with Short-Term Goals: Begin by introducing your child to short-term goals that are achievable within a few days or weeks. These goals should be specific and measurable. For instance, completing homework assignments on time, reading a certain number of pages each day, or practicing a musical instrument for a set duration.
Visualize Success: Encourage your child to visualize what success looks like for each goal. Help them understand the benefits and rewards that come with achieving their objectives. Visualization can be a powerful motivator, as it helps them see the positive outcomes they can attain through their efforts.
Break It Down: Teach your child how to break larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks. This approach helps them see the step-by-step progress they make and prevents them from feeling overwhelmed. By dividing a big goal into smaller milestones, they can celebrate achievements along the way and stay motivated.
Create a Goal Chart: Collaborate with your child to create a goal chart or a visual tracker. This can be a simple poster or a colorful calendar where they can mark off each milestone or task completed. Display the chart in their room or a prominent place at home, allowing them to see their progress regularly.
Celebrate Achievements: Celebrate your child's accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem. Acknowledge their efforts, and praise them for their commitment and perseverance. This positive reinforcement helps build their self-confidence and reinforces the importance of goal setting.
Lead by Example: Set your own goals and share them with your child. Whether it's a personal or professional objective, explain how you plan, work towards, and achieve your goals. By modeling goal setting behaviors, you provide them with a real-life example to emulate and learn from.
Encourage Adaptability: Teach your child that goals can change over time, and it's okay to adjust them when necessary. Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and being adaptable is an essential skill. Help them understand that modifying goals doesn't equate to failure but rather a sign of growth and flexibility.
Provide Support: Offer guidance and support throughout the goal-setting process. Help your child identify potential obstacles they might face and brainstorm strategies to overcome them. Your involvement and encouragement play a crucial role in their development and ensure they feel supported on their journey.
Remember, goal setting is a lifelong skill that will benefit your child well beyond their elementary years. By equipping them with this valuable tool, you are helping them develop a growth mindset and a sense of self-efficacy. Together, let's foster a generation of confident, motivated, and goal-oriented individuals.
Should you have any questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our dedicated staff. We are here to support you and your child every step of the way.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Kuzas

PE NEWS!
This year's roller skating unit for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will be February 26th-March 22nd! Your student will be bringing home a permission slip this week. Please make sure they return the permission slip and $12 fee by February 14th. If your student has a helmet at home please send it to school with them before February 26th. They can store the helmet in their classroom until the skating unit is over. If your student does not have a helmet to bring in, I will have some that they may use. Please make sure to read the permission slip carefully as we do have some changes this year. Let me know if you have any questions.
Also, starting February 8th, all kindergarten and first grade students will be participating in our strider bike unit! The strider bikes are specifically designed for young students to learn how to balance while using their feet to push themselves along. Once students are comfortable with their balancing skills, pedals can be added to the bikes so they can experience a more traditional biking experience. If your student has a bike helmet at home please send it to school with them before February 8th. They can store the helmet in their classroom until the bike unit is over. If your student does not have a helmet to bring in, I will have some that they may use.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me at jacob.turner@fieldlocalschools.org

PBIS CORNER
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports is an important part of the school environment to encourage positive behavior. There are clear expectations throughout the school that are taught consistently throughout the year. The four expectations promoted at Field Local Schools are:
Safe
Outstanding
Accountable
Respectful
When students do not respond to teaching of the building or classroom expectations, we will view it as an opportunity for re-teaching, not just negative consequences. Students still receive consequences for negative behavior. The goal of the consequence is to teach students so they will not repeat the negative behavior.
