Excited News from B.V.M.
Dear Maternity B.V.M. Families,
We want to thank you all for your dedication and patience this year, although it was not the end of the school year we envisioned. We will continue to embody the spirit of Maternity B.V.M through our faith and dedication to teach our children. With that being said, we have several important announcements for the 2020-2021 school year.
Many of you know I am expecting a baby girl this summer and plan on starting my maternity leave in July, returning October 23, 2020. I will still continue to be the school leader however, we are excited to announce an addition to our staff. Mr. Thomas Houlihan will be our full-time assistant principal for the 2020-2021 school year! A recent graduate of DePaul University with a Masters in Elementary Education and 2021 graduate with the Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from the University of Notre Dame. Mr. Houlihan will show great leadership and will continue our school’s mission during my maternity leave and upon my return. We are excited to have him become a leader in the school and see him flourish in our community. Please see his attached welcome letter to the B.V.M. community.
Lastly, there will be a change in our 7th and 8th-grade classrooms. We will be combining both the 7th and 8th graders into one homeroom and this combination will only take place for the 2020-2021 school year. In order to accommodate the combined level of 7th and 8th graders, we will increase academic achievement/high school readiness that will meet the individual needs of each grade level. Moreover, the entire Junior High (5th-8th grade) will be moving into a new schedule that will increase time in the classroom with English Language Arts, Math, and Science. History and Religion will have a blocked enrichment time that either their homeroom teachers and/or Sr. Alicia Torres will continue to educate. All subjects will have increased minutes that still align or exceed the Illinois State requirements and follow the Common Core Standards for assessments. This change was made in the best interests and needs of our 7th and 8th graders. Additionally, these changes may look differently if the e-learning continues into the fall due to the COVID 19 pandemic. As always, we will continue to work with the individual needs of our students and are still scheduling times in which 7th and 8th graders will learn as an individual grade level class. 8th graders will still have their own special celebrations and their own high school readiness classes individually. We will be announcing more details to this transition in August or sooner depending on guidance from state/city ordinances.
We will continue to keep our community safe and provide consistent communication within our school. We will finish this school year strong and look forward to the next school 2020-2021 year.
Blessings,
Mrs. Molina
Noticias emocionadas de B.V.M.
Querida maternidad B.V.M. Familias
Bendiciones
Mrs. Molina
