See you on April 1st...no fooling!

Important Dates

March 25th-29th - Spring Break

April 8th - 3rd, 4th and 5th Grades begin Forward Exam

Playworks is Coming to Hillcrest

In April, Playworks.org will be working with the students and staff at Hillcrest for a Recess Reboot! This opportunity has been given to us through funds from our school district as a way to help make recess safer and more FUN for all students. More information will be coming soon, but until then, take a look at their website if you are interested in more information.

Report Cards and Continuum Updates

We finished the second trimester on March 6th and Trimester 2 report cards are now available for families to view in Infinite Campus. To view your child's report card, log in to Infinite Campus, click on the reports tab and select Trimester 2 Report Card. There is a screen grab available HERE if you would like to see what this looks like on a desktop computer.

Also, teachers are sharing continuums with families throughout the next week. Please keep an eye out for an email from your child's teacher. These continuums give you specific feedback on your child's progress in math and reading. If you need some help understanding how the continuums are organized, HERE is a short video for your reference or you can reach out to your child's teacher.

FORWARD Testing

As you are probably aware, we will be administering the Forward Exam for all third, fourth and fifth grade students. This is a Department of Public Instruction requirement for all school districts. The tests are designed to obtain important information about each student’s achievement in the areas of Math, Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts (only fourth grade students take the science and social studies tests). At Hillcrest, we will be administering the Forward Exam during the weeks of April 8th and April 15th. Please see the attached information for the complete schedule and additional information. Additionally, please read this letter from the School District of Waukesha in regards to the assessment and this brochure from the Wisconsin Department of Education.

Kindergarten/First Grade Concert Coming Soon!

This is a friendly reminder about our annual Kindergarten/first grade concert, which will be held in the Hillcrest Gym on Thursday, April 11th at 6:30 p.m. All are invited, whether or not you have a student at Hillcrest! The title of our concert is “All about Animals” The dress rehearsal will be earlier in the day at 2:00 p.m. Parents or relatives who are not able to attend the evening concert are welcome to attend the dress rehearsal. HERE is additional information for 1st grade families.

Attendance Letters

Attendance letters are generated and mailed home periodically to keep families informed of the current status of their child's attendance. There were letters sent home this week for any student who has more than 5 days absent. Just a reminder, you are always able to see your child’s attendance in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Parents are able to excuse their children for 10 days a school year. Please make sure to submit doctor’s notes for any days your child has been seen or excused by a health-care professional so those absences can be marked as “medical excused”. Great attendance is an important piece to success at school!

Online Safety

With more and more students participating in online gaming at home, parents should be aware that these games have messaging options for students to communicate with the other players. In addition to making sure you know who your child is online with, it is a good idea to periodically review the messages being sent back and forth. Remind your children that how we talk to each other online should be with respect, just like in real life.

Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders

Thank you so much for everyone's help with making our pick up and drop off procedures work for everyone. Our pick up time has gone much smoother lately! Don't forget, if you utilize the drop off area, students should be able to exit on the sidewalk side independently. Also, if you have other people who are helping to pick up and drop off your child, please make sure you let them know about the traffic flow, too.

Personal Devices

Our school board policy prohibits the use of personal communication devices in school. If students bring a cell phone to school, it should be off and in a zipped up backpack during the day. This includes smart watches and tablet devices. If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call the office and we will relay the message. Students should not be using email for private messaging throughout the day.

Safe Arrival - Available Now!

Hillcrest is now fully up and running with the district's new attendance reporting system, Safe Arrival. Safe Arrival allows you to report an absence or appointment at any time from your phone. Our attendance line is still available for reporting absences but we encourage you to give Safe Arrival a try. We know you will find it to be an easy to use system that is available at times that work for YOU!

1) By far the easiest way to interact with the new system is by downloading the app on your phone and signing up for an account.

2) If you are not an app user and prefer to use your computer signup and login at https://go.schoolmessenger.com/

3) The phone option is still available by calling the attendance line at school. There will be a menu there to transfer your call into the new system. You may however, want to use the direct number 1-866-490-7371. By dialing direct from a phone that is registered with the district, the system should recognize the number you are calling from and be able to quickly identify your children and allow you to confirm their absence.
