AJ Smith looking for sharing an author visit Kalli Dakos in April
If you are interested in having Kalli visit your school too, please send me an email and I can work to arrange things and as Kalli says below, hopefully share the cost.
https://www.kallidakos.com/index.html
I would be so honored to visit your school in April, and to help you retire with a joyous author visit. I had so much fun at both A.J. Smith and Cayuga in 2017, and I still have a poem I wrote during the occasion as well as comments and stories from so many of your teachers.
I also have quite a few new books to celebrate.
I'd love it if Penny would send out information to the other nine districts. If other schools join the book tour, they could all share in the expenses.
The fee is $1600.00 per day for three large-group presentations -- just as you have outlined. The third or fourth week of April is the best for my schedule.
I have been doing more zoom visits than on-site visits, and am looking forward to being
with the children and teachers again in the 2022-23 school year. I have missed this so much.
I have a few poems that celebrate retirement too, and would love to include them in the
program in your honor. It boggles my mind to think of all the children you have helped to
become literate in your library over all the years!
Let me know if this works for you and we'll put it on the schedule. I know April is a very
popular month.
Author recommendation from Auburn
Alicia Klepeis visited all five Auburn elementary schools last year in March.
She presented to grades K-6, seamlessly adapting programs to her audience. She was also very flexible and willing to customize presentations based on each school’s needs. Alicia delighted and educated all with interesting facts about animals, stories of her worldly travels, and tips on how to become a better writer. She is friendly, genuine, easy-going, and fun. https://aliciaklepeis.com/
Battle of the Books update
We are trying to bring this to our area and working wtih O2CM. I have purchased at least 2 copies of everything I can in Sora for you. Please let me know if you and/or teachers in your school want to participate.
Lots of great information like letters to parents and coaching information found here.
No timeline out as of yet though there is a tentative one in the handbook. The only position we really control is the regional and superregional.

We will be having an informational meeting for anyone interested in learning more about the process and what it looks like. They can just sign up via the above form.

SEPTEMBER 21 @ 3PM ET / 2PM CT / 1PM MT / 12PM PT
We know all about Shiny Object Syndrome. New educational tools are exciting and fun, but if they don’t make a clear and meaningful impact in the classroom, they get dropped by the wayside. Join instructional designer Waneta Hebert as she dives into research-based practices withLearn360 (streaming media for K–12 schools and districts) and Classroom Video On Demand (streaming video for secondary schools), including how these supplemental resources can impact student learning in your classroom and become a lasting staple in your lesson plans. We’ll discuss: Whether your district already has access to Learn360 and Classroom Video On Demand or you’re exploring your options, you will learn something new in this research-based webinar!
