NOW OPEN: 2020-21 Preschool, Kindergarten, and Grades 1-12 Registration
2020-21 online school registration is now open for all new and existing families – this includes 2-year old, 3-year old, and 4-year old preschoolers, developmental kindergartners (DK), kindergartners and students entering grades 1-12. All registration information is located online and viewable here.
- 2-year-old and 3-year-old preschool registration opened February 5 @ 8 a.m. (Online and in-person)
- 4-year-old preschool registration opeed February 12 @ 8 a.m. (Online and in-person)
- Developmental Kindergarten and Kindergarten registration opened February 19 (Online)

CultureALL Day Connects to Students' Heritage, Learning
The three-hour early out on February 27 made a perfect day for Johnston Middle School students to learn about different cultures from around the world, thanks to the school’s partnership with CultureALL.
Students rotated between a variety of CultureALL sessions, including West African Drumming, Native American Stories, Latin American Dance, Chinese 5 Animals, Indian Culture & Bollywood, Stories of our Stuff, Day of the Dead, Avram and his Accordion, and Nepalese Yoga. Read More.

JHS Math Club Students Shine in Internat'l Competition
Johnston had two teams enter in the Annual High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling. They analyzed available data and constructed algorithms to model the impact of plastic bottle bans in communities.
The team of Ada Chen, Anna Larson, Phoebe Smith, and Jenna Woodsmall, and were awarded a “Successful Participant” certificate of achievement. The team of Matthew Ding , Anna Janni, Owen Smith, and Paxson Picken were awarded “Meritorious,” which means they qualified and will be competing in a more rigorous and prestigious international event. Only 62 of 791 teams were chosen for this world-wide challenge. Congratulations!

Dragon Scholarship Fund Annual Auction Happens March 7
All community members are welcome to attend the annual Dragon Scholarship Fund Auction on Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 6:00-10:00 PM. The event is being held at the Hyperion Field Club, located at 7390 NW Beaver Drive in Johnston, Iowa.
This fundraiser is more than just an auction! It’s an opportunity to enjoy a night of music, entertainment and food while joining in the community effort to support our Johnston Dragons. Some of the featured auction items this year will be MLB game tickets, VIP seats at this year’s graduation ceremony, experience packages and much more! Read more.
Johnston Chopped is March 2
Johnston Chopped is coming up on Monday, March 2 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Hyperion Field Club in Johnston. This culinary gala benefits the Johnston Partnership and
supports the Johnston DMARC Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, Friday Friends, and Dragon Power as well as the JUMP mentoring program, Back to School Health and Resource Clinic, and Johnston Gives.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Superintendent Laura Kacer reported out on Goal #6 - Culture of Coaching. Laura shared her experience at the recent AASA Superintendent's Conference in San Diego. One of Laura's takeaways is a National Principal Supervisor Academy for 2020-21. This would directly pertain to Dr. Amendt's position supervising the school principals.
