Mark Your Calendar for our TCE Family Math Night

Thorpe Creek's first Family Math Night is coming your way! Join us on Friday, November 11th anytime from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. for an evening of math fun! It will be an open house of games, activities, Spheros, a math scavenger hunt, and so much more, all focused on math concepts. You can come and go throughout the night as your evening allows. Our TCE PTO will be selling pizza for a quick dinner option. We hope you will join us for a family night of math fun and learning!

Moby Max

Moby Max is a math site that we use in first grade to practice our math fact fluency, but also can practice other math concepts. Although we have used it mostly in our classroom for math, it has reading, science, & social studies, and even vocabulary practice as well. Even if your child doesn't bring their iPad home each day, they can still use Moby Max to practice. Here's how to access it from home (the kids should know how to do this already but might need help getting to the first website...

  • Go to the library website http://destiny.hse.k12.in.us
  • Click on Thorpe Creek Elementary
  • Click on the HSE Digital Resources box near the top of the Symbaloo (it has a white C in it)
  • Login to Clever using their computer login and password (if your child doesn't know this, please email me and I can let you know what it is)
  • Click on Moby Max (the green whale)

After logging in the first time, it will generally keep you logged in so you don't have to login each time.

Read Every Day!

We do not have official homework in first grade. However, we do encourage you to have your child read every night (or in the morning if that works better with your family's schedule). 20 minutes is a good reference for time (or divide it up). Today I am sending home our first "read at home" book. This is a grey and white, paperback book that will be coming home in a bag with a recording paper. Please have your child read the book themselves at home at least once, preferably out loud. If your child wants to keep the book, feel free, but please be sure to return the bag and completed recording sheet (this way I know which books I have already sent home). Each child will have to record themselves reading the book aloud on Seesaw at the end of the week, so the more practice they get the better!

Fall Book Fair

The Fall Book Fair is coming to TCE! It will be open Tuesday, November 1st - Friday, November 4th during the school day. It will also be open on Friday, November 4th until 6:30 so you can shop before PTO's Movie Night! Our class will shop the Book Fair on Thursday, November 3rd @ 2:30. If you choose to send in money for your child to shop, send it in a clearly marked envelope with your child’s name and teacher. You are welcome to sign in at the office and shop with your child as well. **You must have a background check on file in the office if you wish to shop during the school day with your child. Please visit HSE's website for more info: http://www.hse.k12.in.us/ADM/parents/volunteering.aspx.** You can also shop the Book Fair Online starting October 26th - November 9th!
