General Update

SCC CAPS Technology Solutions associates have been engaging with business professionals, expanding their network and improving their professional skills all while working very hard on their business partner projects. In October, they concluded the Professional Skills Bootcamp with mock interviews and parent/associate conferences.


Thank you to those that attended the associate-led conferences and participated in mock interviews. We hope you enjoyed the experience and learned more about what the associates are learning in the SCC CAPS program.

Business Partner Projects

Charter - Women in Cable

The Women in Cable Telecommunication had its monthly meeting at Charter Spectrum on September 29th with guest presenter JC Hamilton diccussing stress management. The SCC CAPS associate team was tasked with filming and editing the presentation.

Mock Interviews

The Technology Solutions associates had the opportunity to participate in mock interviews with the Charter HR Team. To prepare for interviews, associates practiced answering interview questions, preparing resumes & cover letters, and dressing professionally. This was a great experience for the associates to prepare them for their internship interviews and the workforce!

Parent-Student Associate-Instructor Conferences

All CAPS associates took advantage of parent-teacher conferences and created a presentation to present to their parents about their CAPS experience. The presentation included how they use their skills in CAPS, examples of the progress they have made, strengths and weaknesses, and their goals going forward in CAPS. It was a great reflection opportunity for our associates!

Site Visits

Beanstalk Web Solutions

Beanstalk Web Solutions in Webster Groves, Missouri opened their doors to the PM Technology Solutions associates. The associates were able to tour the building all thanks to owner and founder Tim Hebel. They were able to discuss web design, digital marketing, and app development with the entire Beanstalk team.

Spectrum Kernel

Technology Solutions associates had the opportunity to visit Spectrum Kernel, a Charter Spectrum creative agency. The associates were able to see their green screen rooms, see the filming and editing process for commercials, and talk to industry professionals about their jobs regarding creative media. A few associates even got the experience of recording their own commercial in a sound booth!

St. Charles County Government

At the St. Charles County Government, AM associates learned how the government is expanding technology-wise. Some expansions include GIS communications and ensuring police officers and ambulance personal are educated with knowledge on their devices in case they are not working properly. Associates also learned employees are constantly in classrooms learning new technologies to ensure the county is running smoothly and safely.

Vivial

The associates had the opportunity to visit Vivial, a digital marketing company. At Vival, associates were taught a crash course in online marketing, including what a buyer's journey includes, the foundations of a good website, and how important it is to follow trends. Associates working on websites for their business partner projects were able to use Vivial's marketing resources to see what they can improve with their projects.

City of Wentzville

The associates visited the City of Wentzville to learn about the importance of technology in local government. Along with a tour of their City Hall, the associates learned about job opportunities in local government related to technology. Occupations like social media marketer, crime analyzer, and networking jobs are in demand. The associates also learned how the City of Wentzville is integrating technology to increase citizen participation. Citizens can now pay court fines, pay utility bills, and live stream meetings all from the comfort of their home via their computer or smartphone.

Guest Speakers

CAPS AM Cross-Strand Networking Event

The AM CAPS associates participated in a cross-strand networking/sharing event organized by the Global Business and Entrepreneurship AM strand. At this event, associates learned about the art of networking from Nina DeAngelo, Vice President of O'Fallon Chamber of Commerce and Industries. It was a fun morning of networking and sharing learning experiences in CAPS!

St. Charles County CAPS Program

The SCC CAPS program immerses students in professional environments where curriculum has been developed by industry professionals ensuring what is taught in the classroom is relevant to the workforce.

In technology solutions, students learn to utilize technology in order to design products and solve business problems. In addition to working with technology, students have the opportunity to learn important soft skills and build their professional networks before venturing into the workforce.
