Summer Newsletter 2018

PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Dear Students, Faculty, and Parents,

I hope that everyone has enjoyed their first bit of summer vacation!

Thank you to all of our amazing students, parents, faculty, and staff for another amazing year here at Fulton Science Academy. We are only continuing to grow and move forward and we are so happy to have you all on this amazing journey of not only this school, but life it's self. The people we surround ourselves with shape who we are and where we all go and I am so excited about the places that we are going. Not only is our student population and staff growing, but with this comes the physical growth of the school. We are busting at the seams and will expand the school itself very soon! As we look to the future, I want us to also remember what brought us all to this place. It has been a journey to say the least, and I am so thankful to have each and every one of you as a part of our growing Family here at Fulton Science Academy!

Several FSA Students travel to costa rica!

Big picture
FSA language students have traveled to Costa Rica and took a break from classes to lend a hand in painting a local family’s home, got a lesson in pottery making, surfing & then hit the town on a scavenger hunt as they really practice their conversation skills ... soaking up the country’s culture as well as the language! Special thanks to Senora Carmona for giving these students this wonderful opportunity! Students have had so many amazing experiences on this trip!

8th grade graduation

FSA's 8th Grade Graduation was held on Thursday, May 24. The ceremony began by the singing of the National Anthem by two of our students, Spiros K, and Niki Z. Mr. Sener continued with the Welcome message. Awards were then given to students based on their performance throughout the year. This was followed by a graduations speech by Jennifer Near, an FSA Alumni who will attend Harvard University in the fall. Following this, Nicole D. was awarded the Citizenship Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution. This was followed by a wonderful graduation video prepared by staff and students as a way to look back on the 2017 - 2018 year. Lastly, before the presentation of graduation certificates, FSA Board Member, Mrs. Angela Lasseter spoke to the graduating class and gave a lovely speech to inspire and motivate our students as they move on to high school.

The faculty and staff enjoyed seeing everyone at such a momentous occasion! It is crazy how fast our kids grow into the people that they have worked so hard to be. These are milestones that mark important times in our children's lives. It was a wonderful ceremony and we look forward to seeing just how far these students go! Congratulations to all of the 8th graders and your families. You have worked very hard to get to this point.

NEW STUDENTS BAND & ORCHESTRA PROGRAM INSTRUMENT SELECTION with ken stanton - July 28, 10:00am - 12:00pm

Dear Parents of New Students in 5th Grade through 8th Grade,

We hope that you continue to have a great summer holiday.

At FSA, all students take either band or orchestra starting at 5th grade. If you need help with selecting your instrument for either band or orchestra program, please join us on Saturday, July 28th between 10am and 12pm.

We would like to clarify a few more things for you about our music program.

* If you have already made your selection of either band or orchestra and if you already know your instrument, then you do not need to come.

* If you need help with instrument selection but you cannot come on July 28th, then please work with Ken Stanton or any other music company directly. On the Ken Stanton website there is a specific link for Fulton Science Academy. They will be able to help you with instrument selection. https://www.kenstanton.com/

* If your child is already playing another instrument which is not listed in our e-mail below and you do not want your child to change the instrument, that won't be a problem. We will accommodate you in our classes. We will not require students to begin a second instrument unless they are willing to. Playing one instrument is good enough for our student's college application.

* Band and Orchestra Classes will offered as follows:

- One Hour Band or Orchestra Class During the Week as part of Specials of Art, Computer, Music, Physical Education and PLTW.

- An Optional Zero Period Band and Orchestra During the Week between 7:25am and 8:05am. Zero period will begin after labor day.

* We will also offer band, orchestra, chorus and some other music clubs as after school clubs for those interested. The detailed club schedule will be shared during orientation day on August 3rd.

* Private music classes will still be available at our school. Detailed information about private music classes will be shared soon.

If you have any other questions, please contact Mrs. Otim at kotim@fultonscienceacademy.org

aftercare hours reminder

Parents, please be reminded that After - School Care is provided every day from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm for a fee of $15.00 per day or $200.00 for the month. We ask that parents pick up any remaining students by 6:00 pm, and no later, as the school closes at 6:00pm. Sometimes our Academic Teams will stay later, but these students are not considered to be in After-Care. There are also sometimes outside organizations that use our facility for sports events, so it may look like there are still plenty of people here, but these more often than not, do not include aftercare students. Thank you for your understanding.

Home Visits - A Fun Way to meet your teachers!

Home visits are a casual way for your child to spend time with his/her teacher in the comfort of their home. Teachers enjoy having a chance to see children in this comfortable environment, doing whatever makes them most happy and spend time with children and their parents outside of a regular school day.

Simply email junal@fultonscienceacademy.org with some suggested dates/times, as well as your students' name(s) and homeroom assignments. Ms. Unal will be in touch to confirm final details.
