Jack Stuart School - April 2022

Administrator's Message

Welcome Back, Students!

We are so happy to have you back on April 4. We are on the last leg of our school year. We have observed the great leaps and bounds in student learning, social-emotional learning and rebuilding connections with each other. Our students have the necessary foundation to finish the school year off strong.

We want to thank Jack Stuart School Parents' Society for the funds to have our students participate in ice skating on March 23. We had a blast on the bus, a lot of fun skating and finished the field trip well with a cup of hot chocolate with a cookie.

We continue with "Caught in the Matrix" where we recognize our students each month for making good choices each day. We add the opportunity for student leadership with the "Principal for the Morning". Each week a student from one grade will be randomly selected to take the role of principal. The selected student will have the opportunity to help with morning supervision, make a special morning announcement, respond to special emails, visit the classroom(s), read with students and be a recess supervisor with teachers. They will have the support of the assistant principal, Mr. Todd Sikorski. Mrs. Lazaruik will then take the place of students in the selected student's classroom. We all looking forward to this new exciting opportunity for all our students.

Our Rolling Hills Coffee Fundraiser was a success with over $2000 in profits! Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraiser.

Skating and bussing for students during the Skating Day fieldtrip in March was paid for out of the schools discretionary fund that was provided by Parents’ Society at the beginning of the year. Thank you to all of the volunteers tying skates and helping out at the arena. Hot chocolate and cookies were handed out as classes returned from skating by a few wonderful volunteers throughout the day. Thank you for your help!

Fruit and veggie trays, as well as some Rolling Hills fundraiser coffee were given to the staff(room) by Parents’ Society as a staff appreciation treat.

JSS Parents’ Society has given the Learning Commons (library) $2000 toward purchases needed in the library. Since running their last two book fairs online, there has been a huge decline. We wanted to help support the library with some extra funding.

Efforts are still ongoing for the new playground addition. We have not received any grant money or additional funding beyond our in-house fundraising so far.

Save-On-Foods has given us over $800 in cash back from purchases with receipts that were donated to JSS. Thank you to everyone participating in this fundraiser. This is an ongoing fundraiser year round, so please keep up the good work!

The next School Council Virtual Meeting will be on Apr. 27 at 7 pm, immediately followed by the JSS Parents' Society Meeting. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Get updates, ask questions and have your voice heard.

Camrose Public Library Spring Reading Challenge

This April, Jack Stuart school is working with Camrose Public Library to offer the Spring Reading Challenge. Starting April 4th, students have the opportunity to receive a bingo sheet and read books in order to fill in spaces. Once they get a bingo by filling in a whole row or column, they can return the card to school for a chance to win a prize from CPL. The last day to submit their bingo cards is April 28th. There is a limit of one entry per person, but they can complete additional spaces for fun. Happy reading!
