DISCUSSION ITEMS

The Board heard discussions on the following topics:

- Several members of our staff provided a District Safety Report to the Governing Board.
  • Jan Rogenski, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, spoke to the Wellness component of the District's Stragetic Plan and how it is being used to help our students feel supported in their relationships & sense of belonging. She also spoke to the Engagement component of the Strategic Plan and our use of Blackboard Communications & tools like the Youth Truth Survey in making sure our students and families feel informed and safe at school.
  • Ruben Fernandez, Director of Innovation, reported on how our safety plans build on those in years past. Current focuses being on Covid response support and traffic safety. He also spoke about the collaborative relationships we have with students, parents, community and law enforcement. All of whom are represented on our District Safety Committee, which will meet on 19th October.
  • Vince Morales, Chief Business Official, spoke to the safety trainings that WCSD employees must complete each year. This year added a Covid component.
  • Amy Espinoza, Director of Special Services, gave a health update for the district. The number of Covid cases in our area continues to drop and, to date, no cases have been transmitted in our schools! Community Covid testing through Agile Force has added Fridays to the Tice Creek community test location. Our Health Center is now up and running to provide support for those students on quarantine. The Health Center hosts our Covid Support Liaison, an LVN, and our district nurses...and now has a help line for Covid support.
    Please note - Community Testing is located on the Tice Creek Campus; the Health Center is located on Azalea Drive, in between Parkmead and Tice Creek Campuses.

- The Walnut Creek Teachers Association (WCTA) presented their opening negotiations proposal to the WCSD


- The California School Employees Association (CSEA), Chapter 202, presented their opening negotiations proposal to the WCSD

ACTION ITEMS

The Board voted on the following recommended action items:

  • The opening negotiations proposal from Walnut Creek School District (WCSD) to the Walnut Creek Teachers Association (WCTA) was Approved 5-0
  • The opening negotiations proposal from Walnut Creek School District (WCSD) to the California School Employees Association (CSEA), Chapter 202 was Approved 5-0
  • The Certification of Instructional Materials and Resolution 21-22-01, Determination of Sufficiencey of Textbooks & Instructional Materials, were presented for approval by Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Jan Rogenski - Approved 5-0
  • Director of Innovation, Ruben Fernandez, presented for approval the need for a new cargo van and a new truck with cargo-lift for the maintenance department - Approved 5-0
  • Chief Business Official, Vince Morales, presented for approval the districtwide printing strategy contract with Konica-Minolta - Approved 5-0

REPORTS FROM GOVERNING BOARD MEMBERS

The Board Members reported the following activities since our last Board meeting:

  • Aimee Moss: joined the Las Trampas Creek Council Legistlative Committee, who had a good discussion regarding safety, traffic and crossing guards at their last meeting
  • Liz Bettis: listened to the Teacher of the Year celebration that COE held on 9/22/21
  • Heidi Hernandez-Gatty: participated in the WaLaMOrinda Board President's meeting on 9/17/21
  • Nithin Iyengar: attended the WCEF Board Meeting
  • Zetta Reicker: nothing to report
