The Weekly Hoot
February 18 -February 24, 2019
Greetings All -
Happy Friday! I think we all need it! This flu crud going around just doesn't seem to be letting up, does it?? As I changed the background from Valentine's Day to Springtime, I got a little excited. I don't know about you, but I feel like springtime has been teased us a little bit lately and now next week it is supposed to be cold again! It's crazy when you are waiting on something like springtime, it seems to go soooo slowly. I guess that is how it is for us and Spring Break right now, huh?
I wrote the paragraph below the last couple of years at this time, but it always seems appropriate to remind ourselves of the following about this time every year:
In the next three weeks before Spring Break we have 14 days to help make students successful. We have 14 mornings to bring in a student that needs a little extra help and tutor them one-on-one. We have 11 afternoons to offer after-school tutoring to groups of students who are having a hard time with certain objectives. We have 14 days for positive interactions with students and and co-workers to keep building those relationships. In essence, we have 3 weeks to send these students off to Spring Break with more knowledge than they do today. Embrace these next three weeks as an opportunity for advancement of students rather than a countdown to Spring Break. After that, we will then go out and enjoy the much needed and much deserved time off! :)
I hope everyone has a wonderful three day weekend. Mine is going to be spent helping at a fundraiser, attending a funeral, and maybe doing a little work outside if the weather cooperates!
Love to all,
Marcy
Owl Wings This Week Go To...
Amanda Sechelski for having a truly "hands-on" small group math lesson when kiddos were having a hard time grasping the idea of division being equal groups. Amanda tied it to literature, had cookies to divide up onto plates, etc... I saw the lightbulbs going off in the students' heads when they were able to have something concrete to work with.
Christena Pyle and Kelsie Eisenman - thank you for being so flexible the last couple of weeks. We look forward to you all being in your new positions for the spring!
Lastly, to Kim Ross. I don't even know what to write that I haven't written or said before. Kim, you are a true professional, an amazing teacher, and an outstanding friend. I will miss seeing you daily, but know you aren't going far. Thank you for being a great team member and an awesome Anderson-Shiro Owl! Good luck on your next endeavor. Huntsville ISD is one lucky school district!
