DELRAN HIGH SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT
Delran High School, an inclusive learning community, provides educational opportunities for intellectual development while valuing the importance of cultural diversity and tradition.
A Message from Mr. Finkle!
I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer! Just a reminder, the school calendar has been changed and school will now begin on Wednesday, September 9th. This will be a REMOTE day for every student. More information about the structure of the day will be forthcoming as the administration and staff are working very diligently to prepare for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
Well, this is going to be a very interesting year as I am sure everyone is aware. If you have viewed any of Dr. Brotschul's morning talks which can be found on the district website, you understand that we are at the most basic level of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, which is safety and security. We continue to plan for this school year keeping the student's and staff's safety at the forefront of every decision. To that end, please know that masks, which cover the nose and mouth, are MANDATORY when anyone is in the building. This goes for students, staff, and any visitors that enter DHS. We will provide mask breaks for students where they can be outside either during lunch or a study hall; however, at no other time should anyone be removing their mask.
I thank the community for completing the survey as to whether your child(ren) will be in the hybrid model or 100% remote. Now that we have that information, we need to develop a schedule for both groups. Next week, we will send you a mailing that will designate your child as either part of the Delaware or Rancocas cohort and a bit more explanation about the schedule. This is no easy task, so I ask for your patience as we work through a brand new situation.
Regardless of whether your child is on the Hybrid or Remote schedule, each student MUST have a computer for himself/herself at their disposal when they are working from home. The district will be moving to a 1:1 initiative; however, though computers were ordered in June, they will not be delivered until November. To that end, if your child requires a computer to use, please complete THIS FORM so that we can prepare a Chromebook for September.
I also wish to thank the 60 volunteers who came to DHS a couple of weeks ago to test out our new traffic patterns in the hallways and sanitizing protocols used in the classrooms. It was very informative for the administrators and certainly helped us to make decisions.
For the 2020-2021 school year, every student has been scheduled for a Study Hall. This is vitally important given the fact that many students have been struggling with the pandemic and our Guidance Counselors wish to work with students, both individually and in small groups, to help the students process what is happening in the world around them.
Social-Emotional Learning is vital for our students and we have also infused many of these lessons into our Physical Education program. Another change to the schedule from years past is that we no longer will be having labs for most science courses due to social distancing concerns.
For lunches, which I know is of concern to the community, we have designated 5 different areas for students to eat and remain socially distant. We have two areas in our existing cafeteria, our auxiliary gym, as well as two areas outside of the building that we are setting up with picnic tables. I anticipate approximately 90 students per lunch period on a typical day and believe that our plan will work to keep students safe.
Once class schedules are released, our Guidance Counselors will be available to make any changes that are necessary. Please understand that there are many restrictions on how classes can run and limits the number of students that can be in each classroom.
I understand that this is a lot to digest, so, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at any time.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me at dfinkle@delranschools.org or (856) 461-6100 x3005.
More Odds and Ends
FamilyID is now available. It is imperative that this is completed before school begins in order for your child to be "in good standing". If it is not completed, your child will not have the privileges offered to all Delran High School students. HERE is a link to the registration page. Please remember that if you already used FamilyID for fall sports, that IS NOT the registration page. You must go back in and register your child again for the new school year. If the registration is not completed by the beginning of the fall season, students are NOT ELIGIBLE to participate. Instructions are posted below.
If you have changed any contacts or phone numbers, it is imperative that you also sign-in to the Parent Portal so that the information can be updated in our student information system as well.
Listed below are very important dates and information for parents and students:
- For incoming Freshman and New Students to Delran High School in grades 10-12, our Orientation Program will be held on Wednesday, August 26th; however, at this time, we are unsure as to the format. With Governor Murphy decreasing the number of people to gather at an inside event to 25, it has certainly changed our plan. We are working on this and will mail out information shortly; however, the date will not change.
- Parents/Guardians of Seniors: Please click here to complete a mandatory 2021 Diploma Order Form.
- Click here for the Summer Assignments. They are posted on our website too. Encourage your child to have a strong start in the new school year by completing the summer reading they selected. For your child's Summer Reading book, please contact Dr. Danielle Jones at djones@delranschools.org if you are unsure of the choice.

Message for the Class of 2024
The Guidance Counselors would like to invite our new students in the Class of 2024 and remind students that if they have not yet done so, to join our Google Classroom, 6vrahjh, in order to receive timely information from our department.
As the Guidance Counselors prepare for the coming school year and work on course scheduling, we may need to contact students to resolve conflicts/course corrections. We ask that students complete the Summer Contact Information Form so that we will be able to reach them in a timely fashion.
