STAAR English EOC Exams - English II Tomorrow!
McMillen Students & Families,
Please review the following information regarding the STAAR testing scheduled to take place on-campus next week.
Schedule: See link below!
Important Information:
- All students (F2F and REM) are allowed to come to school to take English EOC tests on the designated day
- There is no need to register or let us know you are planning to attend
- Students may choose not to come to campus to take EOC tests this year due to COVID concerns. Students who do not test this spring will not be exempt from testing and will still be required to take and pass these EOC tests prior to graduation. Due to COVID, parents and students are just being allowed an opportunity to delay taking tests this until next year.
To Prepare:
STAAR English 1 and English 2 EOC will be administered in an ONLINE format this year. If you have never taken an online STAAR test, it would be a good idea for you to complete an online tutorial/practice test to familiarize yourself with the features available on the testing platform.
- From your Chromebook you must be logged out to access the STAAR Online Testing Platform on your Apps.
- From other devices, you may access the platform using this link: STAAR Online Testing Platform

What to Bring:
- Chromebook and charger
- Pencils to write on scratch paper if you would like to plan your essay before typing it into your Chromebook

TSIA Testing for Dual Credit Applicants - Register today by 5 for April 10th Test Date
Campus Callout - Dual Credit
As a student who is interested in taking a dual credit course, you are required to show that you are ready for college-level work. Your readiness can be demonstrated by your SAT or ACT scores or by taking the TSIA (Texas Success Initiative Assessment). The TSIA determines whether a student knows key prerequisite skills for college-level coursework. All students enrolling in Texas colleges and universities take the TSI assessment unless they are exempt through their SAT/ACT scores.
The TSIA is an untimed, multiple-choice test and essay that is taken online. The test is aligned to the Texas College and Career Readiness standards for math, reading, and writing. The test has three sections and most students finish within three to five hours. The test is $25 and your results are available to you immediately upon completion. Test results are valid for five years.
If you have any questions or need to register for the TSIA through Plano ISD; please contact your counselor.

Book of the Week
From before her mother's first oncology appointment through the stages of her cancer to the funeral, sitting shiva, and afterward, when she must try to make sense of her life as a motherless daughter, Tyler Feder tells her story in this graphic novel that is full of piercing--but also often funny--details. She shares the important post-death firsts, such as celebrating holidays without her mom, the utter despair of cleaning out her mom's closet, ending old traditions and starting new ones, and the sting of having the "I've got to tell Mom about this" instinct and not being able to act on it. This memoir, bracingly candid and sweetly humorous, is for anyone struggling with loss who just wants someone to get it.

Summer Entrepreneurship Program
In partnership with fantastic sponsors like Baylor University, Magnolia Foundation, Charles Schwab, Guaranty Bank & Trust, and more!
During our three week program, students will launch a small business using our self-guided business kits and daily videos that walk them through the entire process. Because of our generous sponsors, the program is free for a certain number of students to participate (first come, first served) and we currently have 215 scholarships available for Dallas area students.
Last year was a huge success with nearly 900 students across Central and North Texas participating! You can see the highlight video from the 2020 program here. https://youtu.be/dqjwComZ6bs
Registration will open on April 1st and the program will be held July 10th – July 31st. The program filled in just a few days last year so we encourage you to let your students know about the opportunity and to register April 1st to ensure they have a chance at a free spot.
Would you be willing to send this flyer (downloadable here, Spanish version here) to the parents and students at your school(s) to let them know they can register on April 1st? Registration will take place at https://bossclubfoundation.org/dallas
Thank you!
David
