Advice from the Big Dawgs: Alumni Bulldogs and Students Connect
Students will get the opportunity to connect with alumni professionals in industry areas who live around the world! Alumni can share experiences, exchange career tips and students can build a global professional network - all online!
It's free, it's only an hour and it's fun!
How it Works:
Online networking enables you to speed-network no matter where you are in the world. You can sign in from your home, office, library, phone or tablet. The chats are text-based and timed, allowing you to make connections, exchange contact information, and end the hour with several new connections you didn't have before. After the chats, add your new contacts to your network by adding them to your LinkedIn networks or following up via email.
FOR STUDENTS: Here are some ideas on how to get the conversation started:
· What did you study at UGA?
· What do you do professionally?
· Why did you decide to participate in this event?
· How did you get into your industry area?
· Can I ask for your advice on ____?
· What's your favorite memory on campus?
· If you could do one thing differently in your career, what would it be?
A transcript of your conversations will be saved for you to access after each event, so you can look back at your chat history, review your notes, gather contact information and follow up.

NASA Develop Program
The NASA DEVELOP Program is currently recruiting for their Spring 2018 term! The program offers 10-week paid contracting positions operating at twelve NASA nodes around the US and accepts both national and international participants. DEVELOP is open to current students, recent graduates, and transitioning career professionals who have an interest in applied science. Participants collaborate in teams in a fast-paced, highly professional environment. Teams partner with outside organizations to work on remote sensing projects that help address local and international community concerns while utilizing NASA Earth observations. DEVELOP projects are centered around building capacity in both participants and partner organizations.
This is a great opportunity for individuals who are interested in practical applications of remote sensing and GIS, specifically in the field of Earth Science. All projects are designed to demonstrate how NASA remote sensing imagery can be used in water resources, disaster management, ecological forecasting, and other application areas to address environmental community concerns. DEVELOP’s projects are interdisciplinary in nature, so applications are welcome from all academic backgrounds.
Applicants must have excellent communication and writing skills and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. This program is competitive, particularly during summer terms due to high application volume. Though GIS or remote sensing knowledge is beneficial, leadership potential and enthusiasm for applied Earth science projects are strongly considered alongside technical experience. Although the term is only 10 weeks, there are many opportunities to advance through the program to year-long contracts, as well as professional, networking, and technical learning opportunities within each term.
Application window:
For Spring 2018 term: August 28, 2017 – October 6, 2017
Upcoming term dates:
Spring 2018: January 22, 2018 – March 30, 2018
