DSE and OMS "LINK" up for kids
The success of our LINKS program at the middle and high schools is getting underway at Dix Street Elementary, too, where our elementary ASD program is housed. This week, the middle school LINKS came to talk to DSE LINKS and share information about what it's like, how they're trained, what to expect and what it's taught them as well. Students say they've learned patience, understanding and developed a greater desire to help others. #OtsegoPride As a link, students are partnered with a student on the autism spectrum and help them in class, at lunch or recess and join them on field trips.
Important People in History
Bill Gates, Michael Jordan, Queen Elizabeth and dozens of other important people in history were in Alamo's 3rd grade classrooms this week! Not the real people, of course, but these students got into character for their special biography presentations. They each chose an important person in our history to research, then dressed the part to teach their classmates all about "them"!
STREAM Sled Races
The sledding hill was a fast one, but STREAM students engineered some strong cardboard sleds (with just cardboard and duct tape) to handle an afternoon of competition! There wasn't one design that was the same! Each team was guaranteed three races as they moved through the bracket. There were a few tumbles, but the kids had a blast! Check out the pictures and a video with a few races below!

Main Street Delivers Gus Macker Proceeds
Otsego's Gus Macker 3 on 3 tournament is not only a fun event for our community and great for downtown, but it's also a fundraiser for Otsego Main Street and Otsego High School. Various sports teams and organizations volunteer for the event, therefore, get a cut of the proceeds that go to OPS. This week, Gus Macker coordinators Scot Reitenour and Marty Bennett stopped by to deliver the checks to a few students from each sport. In the 5 years of Gus Macker, $10,000 has gone back into our athletic programs.
Stars Shine on Stage in 2nd Show!
Our 4th & 5th grade Stars program "Kid Flicks" was a hit! The students sang, and danced, to some of the great songs of kids class movies like Spiderman, Moana and Monsters, Inc. They did an amazing job! Thank you, Mrs. Hardaker and Mrs. Garton for your leadership in this wonderful program for our students.
Preschool ventures out for Sprouting Naturalist program
Today's Spourting Naturalist adventure at Learn 'N Grow Early Childhood Education Center was all about safety in the woods. They discussed what to do if you are lost. They learned to follow their tracks back and to tie a ribbon along the path. Their ribbons directed them back to school.

Valentine's week at Dix Street was a time to show how much they care about the community, too! DSE held its annual food drive and collected 206 items and $167! Great job!

OPS Demonstrates Capturing Kids Hearts Culture during visits
At Otsego Public Schools we focus on building a culture and climate where relationships come first. We adopted the Capturing Kids' Hearts program more than 10 years ago and have reinvested in CKH training across the district and in a new leadership program. This week, Capturing Kids Hearts consultant, Joe Pellerito, visited each of our schools and met with staff and students. He stopped into a lot of classrooms as well and checked out all of the great CKH efforts taking place across the district!
