This week, students learned about rational numbers and how to determine if a number is rational. They also got a taste of what an irrational number is. Along with this, students learned how to compare rational numbers as well. They took a quiz over concepts from Chapter 3. Finally, students finished the week with an introduction to the concept of Absolute Value. They are currently at the halfway point in this chapter. Homework due Monday: page 155(2-16)/page 156(1-6) & page 161(2-15)/page 162(1-6).
Next week, students have a short week. They will continue to work on absolute value. They will also participate in a pancake contest between Hungry Jack and Spartan brand pancakes. Students will take a vote on which pancake tastes the best. We will work on some percentage problems following the contest. They have worked on several concepts leading up to this contest including: Area and Circumference of circles, finding unit rates, and a variety of other problems related to the pancake contest.
