We are getting ready to begin our annual Spirit Week. This year, because of a day off and an asynchronous day during the week of October 10th, we will begin Spirit Week early. It will officially begin October 6th and culminate on October 14 with color day. Each day will have a different theme and the grades will compete with each other based on the number of students participating. We will have a pep rally in the afternoon of October 14th where the final competitions will take place and the winning class will have bragging rights. Please encourage your student to participate in the spirit days.

National Honor Society Invitations
Today students in grades 10-12 who are eligible to apply for admission to the National Honor Society (cumulative weighted GPA of 4.000 or higher as of the end of the last school year) will receive an email inviting them to apply. Students who choose to apply for the National Honor Society, will need to complete an application showcasing service, leadership, and character history. Selection for membership is based upon evidence provided in the application. Students should check their school email for the google classroom code in order to complete the application. The application will be posted on Monday, October 3 and the completed printed application is due to the main office no later than 3:00 pm on Friday, October 14. No exceptions.
Students who are selected to be a member must attend a mandatory induction meeting on October 27 at 2:30pm and the induction ceremony on November 10th from 7pm-9pm.
If there are any questions, it is imperative that the student contacts the National Honor Society advisors before the application is due. It is the student's responsibility to ask questions before submitting the application.

Extended Homeroom Oct 6
NMTCC October 10 and 12
PV does not have school on Oct 10 and 12 however there is still school at NMTCC. (October 12 is PSAT day and those who are scheduled to take that exam will be in person at the HS- all else will be asynchronous)
Transportation is provided for both AM and PM technical students to attend their session at NMTCC. Since there is no school at PVHS a bus will pick up our NMTCC students at their respective bus stops. Please check with your tech bus driver to find out more information.
Montgomery County Careers of Tomorrow Expo. - Tues.,10/25. 8:30-11am, Greater Phila. Convention Center
This event is “career-awareness” focused and students will have the opportunity to explore activities, products, and services available in our community, learn about career pathways in various sectors including manufacturing and trades, health care, IT, education, energy, and more, and network with area employers and training providers to make connections for possible work-based learning experiences as well as job opportunities.
This field trip opportunity is for 11th and 12th grade students.
Students must return the permission form Careers of Tomorrow Permission Form.pdf to the Counseling Office by 10/18 to attend. Participation will be limited to 45 students and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Eligibility
ACTIVITY PARTICIPATION (Board Policy #123.1)
The Perkiomen Valley School District has stated that its primary mission is that of promoting excellence in all areas with academic excellence being of the highest priority. Therefore, it is the intent of this policy to help motivate students to approach their course work in a positive and assertive manner.
Students are subject to the guidelines established for determining their eligibility to participate in all co-curricular activities, such as, but not limited to: sports, band, plays, clubs, leadership roles (student council, executive council), and dances. An “Ineligible List” is printed every week to indicate which students may not participate in extracurricular activities due to poor academic performance or an outstanding debt.
In order to participate in school-sponsored athletic or activity events, students must maintain a passing average for the marking period in all scheduled subjects. A student’s average for every subject, at any given time, must be 60% or above for the student to be considered eligible. The eligibility list will be run every Friday. Students who are not passing every course with at least a 60% average will be placed on probation for one week/the following week. Students who are on probation who have not achieved a passing average in every course by the second will be deemed ineligible and will be ineligible for a period of one week, beginning on Sunday through Saturday. Students who have not passed all courses in the previous marking period shall be ineligible for 15 school days into the new marking period. Students with grade averages below a 60% in two or more courses will not be afforded a probationary period and will be declared ineligible
A student who is absent from school due to illness, suspension, or any circumstance deemed unexcused (tardy or absent) will be prohibited from participating in any school-sponsored activity the day of the absence. To be eligible to participate in practice, game, or co-curricular events, a student must report to school by 10:30 a.m. Exceptional reasons for which students may be excused must meet administrative approval. If a student leaves school during the day because of illness, the student may not participate that day or evening unless he/she/they has physician approval.
SPECIFIC PROVISIONS
Scholastic eligibility for all PIAA athletes and participants in extra-curricular and co-curricular school activities such as musical ensembles and clubs, shall be reported and enforced weekly and quarterly. Eligibility will be reported each Friday based on current marking period grade averages.
Students are expected to maintain a minimum grade average of 60% in all classes. In the event a student’s grade average in one course drops below 60% they will be notified and placed on a one week probationary period. Students are expected to seek assistance for the class/course during the probationary period and may still participate in PIAA sports or extra-curricular and co-curricular school activities.
For a student on probation who has not achieved a passing average (higher than 60%) by the second week, he/she/they will be ineligible for a period of one week and not permitted to participate in any PIAA sports or extra-curricular and co-curricular school activities beginning Sunday and extending to the following Saturday. Should a student be deemed eligible on the following Friday’s report, play and practice may resume on Sunday.
A student’s current average will be determined by the teacher, based on factors such as quiz and test grades, class participation, projects, notebooks, and other reasonable measures of achievement or effort. Incomplete grades due to sickness, injury, or prolonged excused absence shall not be averaged for eligibility purposes.
Students with grade averages below 60% in two or more courses will not be afforded a probationary period and will be declared ineligible.
Students who do not pass all of their courses by the conclusion of any one of the first three marking periods will be ineligible for a period of 15 school days during which they are expected to receive additional assistance from their teacher(s). Students who do not pass all of their courses for the school year will be ineligible for 15 school days into the next year. Students who successfully complete summer school to correct deficiencies from the end of the year shall be deemed eligible.
Students trying out for a sport or activity will not be excluded from “tryouts” for the first two weeks of practice due to ineligibility.
For activities such as a school play or musical, for which there is only a short period of performance (one weekend one time per school year), eligibility for the performance will be decided 4 weeks before the production occurs. Music ensembles, such as band, choir, orchestra, will follow the requirements for all PIAA sports and extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.
Special education students are also subject to this policy unless it is determined by the special education teacher and the mainstreamed teacher that the student’s failure is a result of the student’s disability and evident within the student’s I.E.P.
Charter and Cyber charter school students’ participation and eligibility shall be governed by applicable state law and by Board Policy #140.1
Exceptions
If a student is eligible at the time of registration and deposit for any trip or activity that requires advanced registration and deposit, such as Wallops Island and the band trip, she/he/they will remain eligible.
No students are declared academically ineligible for the prom, winter ball, or homecoming. Students will not be considered for the courts if they are on the ineligibility list. However, if they were eligible at the time of selection of the court, even if their name appeared on the list during the week of the event, they may participate.
Students may attend dances and they may be spectators at athletic events regardless of their current eligibility status
Homecoming Dance 10/15
Students will be permitted to bring 1 guest who must be in at least 9th grade and cannot be 21 or older. Guests will need to submit a completed guest form to the main office by September 30th. Dance Guest Form

Volunteer Opportunities
The counseling department has created a list of potential ways that high school students can engage in community service. This list is intended to be a starting point and will continue to be updated. If you would like an organization or opportunity to be added to this list, please reach out to Mrs. Burdis, Career Counselor, at jburdis@pvsd.org.
PSAT October 12
PSATs will be offered Wednesday, October 14, 2022 for 10th and 11th graders. The cost of the test is $25. This will be an asynchronous day for non-test takers. For test takers, transportation will be provided and lunch will be available for purchase.
Students who are taking the exam will report to school at the normal time. Testing will be completed around noon. Transportation will be provided. Students will have the opportunity to purchase lunch prior to dismissal. Our low incidence students in Ms. Roche and Mrs. Bialoboki's classes will attend the entire school day and all other students who are not testing will be asynchronous.
NMTCC Students:
- AM students who are taking the test will not attend their tech program for that day.
- AM students who are NOT taking the test will attend their tech program as they normally do.
- PM students who are taking the test will be bussed to their tech program from PVHS.
- PM students who are NOT taking the test will be bussed to their tech program from home.

ASVAB Career Exploration Program
The ASVAB Career Exploration Program will be offered for any 10th, 11th, or 12th grader on Fri., 10/7. The ASVAB - Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery can help students identify a career path and/or college major and helps students understand their skills, abilities, and interests in order to make the best decisions about their future. The assessment will run from approx. 8-11am. Any student with 4th lunch who participates will be able to eat lunch after the assessment. Clubs and Activities
Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be meeting every Wednesday at 7:00 am in the Library.
There will be a MANDATORY informational meeting for all sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in joining Big Brothers Big Sisters Program. The meeting will be held on Monday, October 3rd in Room 242 immediately after school. Please note: You must drive or be able to arrange transportation in order to apply for the club. You may get applications from Mr. Heist or Ms. Paulus or by clicking here. Applications are due on 10/3. Again, attendance at this meeting is mandatory. Picture Retakes and Make-ups
Students who want to get their pictures retaken are to return their picture packet to the photographer in the auditorium on October 11th and a new packet will be generated.
Financial Aid/FAFSA
The Counseling Department will host its annual Financial Aid and FAFSA Completion Night on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 for 11th and 12th grade parents/guardians. Representatives from Montgomery County Community College and Ursinus College will be in the library at 6:30pm to assist with completing the FAFSA. Please bring your own device and have your FSA ID created 3 days prior to this event. A representative from PHEAA will be in the auditorium at 7:00pm to discuss financial aid options, scholarships, and more.
First Annual Fall Colors 5K
The First Annual Fall Colors 5K will be hosted by Lenape Arboretum and PV Woods in partnership with Perkiomen Valley School District Foundation. Join us on Saturday, October 15th, for this 3.1-mile race starting at 9:00am at Perkiomen Valley Middle School East's campus, located at 100 Kagey Road, Collegeville.
Traverse PVMS East's beautiful campus as the Fall Colors 5K leads you through their cross-country course through Lenape Arboretum and over the athletic fields. Enjoy the beautiful fall scenery and a challenge as you run! In addition to the race, there will be fun activities for kids held by the Take Action club!
There are a few ways you can participate in the Fall Colors 5K:
- Individual 5K - do the 5K as an individual and receive a time. Includes a race t-shirt* and access to the Fun Zone.
- 5K Relay - a team of 5 participants will take on the 5K. Each teammate does a 1K. Create your team name, create and bring your baton, and make a uniform (optional!), but above all, have fun with your friends! Includes a race t-shirt for each participant* and access to the Fun Zone. You must register all five members at the time of registration. If you need to change team members, contact foundation@pvsd.org.
- Virtual 5K - if you cannot make the event or live far away, you can still participate! This option includes an event t-shirt mailed to you*.

After School Buses
The after school buses will begin running on Tuesday, September 6th as follows :
Tuesday and Thursdays - 4:00 pm leaving from the bottom of the steps, student lot
Monday thru Thursdays - 5:00 pm leaving from the bottom of the steps, student lot

Viking Genius Bar
The Viking Genius Bar (VGB) is located on the 1st floor in the science wing across from Room 113. All students who are having technical issues with their chromebooks can visit the VGB for assistance daily during the following times ~

Working Papers
Working Papers can be issued if a student between the ages of 14 to 18 is applying for a job and working papers have not yet been issued. Working papers are required by the State of Pennsylvania until a student is 18 years old.
