Message from the Principal
I hope you had a fun three-day weekend! We have many exciting things planned for the last nine days of school. Please be sure to bring your children on time so they don't miss out on any of the events and activities.
Although the mornings have been chilly, it has become increasingly warmer. Please remind your children to put on some sunscreen and wear a hat. Also, be sure they bring a full water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.
We encourage all families to keep their children in school until the last day, which is June 9th. We can not provide Independent Study if they miss the last week of school. Please let your child's teacher and the office team know if your child will miss the last days of school so that report cards and your child's work will be ready to be sent home early.
Let's have a great week!
Mary Katayama
Principal

Melissa Smith - USD Classified Employee of the Year
Melissa Smith has been the health clerk at Carlton for 13 years. Prior to this position, she worked at UMS and Carlton as a one-on-one aide, administrative assistant, and reading intervention aide.
Over the years, Melissa has enjoyed watching our Carlton community grow. She started at Carlton in 2001 as a parent with her oldest son and continued with her other boys. She spent her days running various programs as a parent volunteer.
She started as the Carlton health clerk in 2010. Melissa has immensely enjoyed her time at Carlton as a parent and staff member! She has always been passionate about health and helping children, which makes being a health clerk the perfect job for her. For the last several years, she has had many new responsibilities related to COVID-19. No matter the medical needs, Melissa has always responded with grace and compassion. Her dedication, patience, and flexibility are truly admirable. She was recently voted as Carlton's Classified Employee of the Year. Then, last week, she was recognized as Union School District's 2023 Classified Employee of the Year. We are truly blessed to have Melissa on our staff! Congratulations, Melissa!
