Mask UP!

2020 is the year of surprises, both good ones, and not-so-good ones. As our staff began planning to have students return to in-person learning a few months ago, one of the hottest topics of conversation was, "How in the world will students keep these masks on for 8 hours a day? They won't be able to breathe. They won't be able to talk. They just won't do it." Weren't we surprised when those same adolescents we discussed went on to Prove. Us. Wrong? The students of CLIS have been mask wearing heroes, cloaked bandits, veiled warriors. We are aboundingly proud of them.

Speaking of masks, we appreciate the parents who are wearing their own masks to model this behavior. It is a requirement to keep your masks on, over the mouth and nose, while on campus. This includes any sporting events. Staying vigilant and following the protocols is one of the ways we are keeping your kids safe.

Another exciting development of this historic year is the return of some Clear Connections students next week. Please be on the lookout for a schedule if your child is returning to Brick and Mortar. There are also some current in-person learners who will be getting schedules changed next week. We are trying to minimize those, but in making room for everyone, we have had to adjust. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate this process.

Finally, as we close out the first nine weeks, thank you for going on this 2020 journey with us. We appreciate our Eagle families, our Eagle students, and our Eagle staff. We wouldn't want to do this with anyone else!

Are You Returning to Brick and Mortar Next Week?

We are so excited to have many of our Eagles back with us in person next week. To ease the transition, we will stagger our students' return. Please follow this schedule:

Wednesday, October 14, 2020 - All 6th graders who requested a return to Brick and Mortar by the 9/25/2020 deadline should report to campus. We will have these students wait in the commons after the bell rings to go to advisory. During that time, we will give a brief tour, explain expectations, and answer any questions. They will be given their new schedules at that time. Remember, these students have not been on campus yet, and we want to make them as comfortable as we can!

Thursday, October 15, 2020 - All 7th grade returning students should report to campus if they filled out the survey by the deadline. New schedules will be handed out at that time.

Friday, October 16, 2020 - All 8th grade returning students will come to campus.

Until the return date above, students should follow their CLEAR CONNECTIONS schedule from home.

Do you need to apply for free and reduced lunch services?

October 13th, students currently receiving free or reduced lunch will no longer receive those benefits. Please make sure to fill out your application now. The deadline to either apply for new benefits or renew existing ones is October 13th. Please use this link to complete your application online.

Teacher of the Week

Each week, here in Eagle Nation, we honor a teacher who has contributed to the operations of CLIS in a profound way. We like to do a shout out to parents, too, just so you can know how amazing our staff is! This week's Teacher of the Week is Mrs. Samantha Sullivan! Mrs. Sullivan teaches Pre-AP and Regular 8th grade math. I know all of her students would agree that she truly meets them where they are, and they soar to new heights in their math journey. Thanks for your expertise and your care, Mrs. Sullivan!

A few weeks ago, we began enforcing our tardy policy, which includes student arrival at school. The policy states that any student who is tardy will be given an isolated lunch slip to serve that same day (unless the tardy occurred after the lunch period). We understand that situations occur on the way to school that might make your child late. Please accompany them into the building and provide a written excuse for car trouble, orthodontist appointments, and other emergencies. Otherwise, they will be given the isolated lunch as they check in. Thank you for helping us to grow punctual citizens.

Volleyball Schedule Released

Please note the new rules regarding spectators at volleyball games. Each player from both teams had the chance to purchase 2 season tickets for games. These are designated A team or B team. Depending on who is playing, those ticketholders will be allowed into the game first. After that, tickets will be sold to the remaining fans. Any students wanting to attend a volleyball game MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT. Between A and B games, the gym will be emptied and sanitized. This process takes about 15 minutes, during which time fans will be asked to wait outside. Then, A team season ticket holders will be allowed in to the A game first. In addition, no concessions will be sold during our games. Thank you for understanding the changes made to this process for the safety of coaches, players, and fans.

School Pictures Update

Student Photos:

Brick and Mortar- If you did not get a chance to order before October 2nd, you can still order by using this contact form or by calling customer service at 800-883-6463 or emailing houston@phototexasphotography.com

Clear Connections: We are setting up a Saturday in November for students to come to campus to get a picture taken. Once we have secured a date, families will receive an email and it will be in the Eagle Extra with a link to order pictures and a link to choose an appointment time. Please consider taking advantage of this photo opportunity. These are the pictures that will be in the yearbook and may be what we use in lieu of the 8th grade panoramic picture.

The 8th Grade Panoramic picture has been postponed until the May, 2021. If COVID-19 protocol does not allow the picture to be taken we have an alternative plan with a collage using the individual pictures taken this fall.

Parent Drop Off and Pick Up

Drop off and pick up at CLIS allows for several options that parents can use. Through an agreement with St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, parents can park in their side parking lot located on the El Camino Real side of their building in the afternoons to wait for their children. In addition, we allow students to be dropped off in the front by the flagpole, as well as the back parking lot by the gyms. Please make sure your students know where you will be picking them up BEFORE school gets out. See the map below to decide what's best for your family. PLEASE NOTE - IN MORNINGS AND AFTERNOONS, PARENTS SHOULD NOT USE THE BUS LANE LOCATED ON EL CAMINO REAL.

Lunches will be served in a "grab and go" style through our school cafeteria. Please load money on your child's lunch account, which can be accessed through Skyward, if you intend for them to buy lunch at school. We are encouraging students to bring a sack lunch as to avoid too many students in the line at a time. Of course, meals will be available at school for those who don't bring one from home. Students are also allowed to carry a water bottle, as water fountains will not be in use.
