March 22, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
Hello Centerview Families,
My goodness, the weather, and the potholes on the streets! We are all experiencing the weather, but I’m hoping you have not experienced replacing four new tires on your car as I have. The weather will continue to play its part, and we appreciate you preparing your kids for each day with the unexpected climate that will come our way.
It is important that your kids are in attendance each day, sniffles and minor coughs are all a part of a school day. Staff discuss and remind student often about the importance of being in attendance and how to practice and maintain healthy habits to support our collective health. Let’s finish the year strong with a balance of when kids need to be home and when they can be here practicing healthy habits.
Tri 2 reports cards will be available tomorrow, Thursday, March 23 through Campus Parent Portal by 12:00 p.m. Paper copies will be available upon request.
Reach out if you have questions, need clarification, or would just like to chat. We appreciate your support and partnership.
Take care,
Mike Callahan
Report Card Overview
Report cards are just one of many ways that we report on student learning throughout the year. Report card grades reflect student learning and teachers look at evidence of learning, over time, to determine where students are at in their learning at the time of report cards.
Where to find report cards
Trimester 2 report cards will be available beginning Thursday, March 23. They can be accessed through Campus Parent Portal If you prefer a paper copy of the report card sent home, please notify your child's teacher.
If you need to set or reset your Campus Parent Portal password, please visit the Spring Lake Park Schools Password Portal. Follow steps for "I forgot my password." Passwords can only be reset on this webpage. Additional technology resources can be found on the Technology Tools, Resources and log Ins page.
Once you set your parent password, your username and password will be the same for both Campus Parent Portal and Schoology/Seesaw. Instructions for access to report cards on Campus Parent Portal is as follows:
- On the dashboard on the left hand side of the screen go to DOCUMENTS
- ON top right hand side of screen - go to student selector to pick which student
- Chose report card as the document option
Updated career and life competencies
We have made some shifts in the career and life skills portion. The career and life skills section now reflects our set of career and life competencies. These are skills and mindsets that will be consistent over grades K-12 and become more complex over time.
The career and life competencies you will see on the K-6 report card are:
- Self-direction: Recognizes and regulates emotions, Focuses attention to achieve results, Uses tools and strategies to achieve results, With support identifies goals and monitors progress (Grades K-1), Identifies goals and monitors progress (Grades 2-6),
- Collaboration: Works productively and responsibly with others
- Civic and cultural awareness: Shows care for others in our school community
- Communication: Listens to make meaning and connections, Asks questions to make meaning and connections
- Digital literacy: Uses digital tools and information responsible
For these elementary years, the competencies describe what we hope to see by the end of second, fourth, and sixth grades. Because of this, student progress on these skills will be reported in grade bands for grades K-2, 3-4, 5-6. On your child's report card, you will see a current performance level based on what your child is demonstrating right now for each competency.
The levels are:
- Consistent: I can usually do it on my own, in various situations
- Progressing: I'm working on it and can do it in familiar situations
- Emerging: I'm just learning about it
It is quite likely students in the younger end of the grade band will show more "emerging" skills. For instance, kindergarteners may remain in “emerging” all year long and show growth over the K-2 years. It may take varying amounts of time for each student to reach "consistent." The report card is a snapshot of where your child is currently at with each competency in the grade band. Reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions you may have and for more information about the competencies and how we are measuring student growth and progress.

How to log in to Seesaw and Schoology
As we begin the last Trimester of this school year, we want to remind families that Spring Lake Park Schools students use Seesaw (grades K-2) and Schoology (grades 3-12) for their learning.
Parents/guardians can also access these platforms and follow along with what their children are learning in school. Once a parent or guardian logs on, if you're not sure what you're looking at or where to find something, ask your student to give you a tour!
Seesaw - grades K-2
Seesaw is a learning system intended to give our students in grades K-2 a place to share learning and growth. Seesaw is an easy-to-use platform for our younger learners and provides parents with access and insight into what their children are learning at school.
Parents:
- If you are logging into Seesaw from a computer, use this link.
- If you are logging into Seesaw from the app, download the Seesaw app and follow the instructions on the invite from your child's teacher. If you already had a Seesaw account you don't need to do anything, you will use the same account as you did in the past - your child's new classes will appear the next time you log in.
Students:
- Students need to have both the Clever and Seesaw app downloaded onto the Pad. Students get a QR code from their teacher, scan it in the Clever app and click on Seesaw.
Schoology - grades 3-12
Schoology is our primary learning management system for students grades 3-12. Schoology embeds course content, videos, assignments, quizzes, links and more. Parents/guardians can access Schoology and have total visibility into what their children are learning at school.
- If you are logging into Schoology from a computer, use this link. Watch this video to learn more.
- If you are logging into Schoology from the app, make sure to select Log In through your School and type in Spring Lake Park Schools. Watch this video to learn more.
