The First 9 Months
The baby and mothers body changes throughout each trimester.
First Trimester (Months 1-3)
*6 weeks - The mother begins to have split personality, and she is very hormonal.
Baby
* The babies nose, mouth, and ears are beginning to form. & the babies heart beat is beating about 100 to 160 times a minute faster than moms heart.
Mom
*7 weeks- The uterus has doubled in size and mother not really eating due to morning sickness.
Baby
* The babies hands and feet are emerging. & the baby has doubled in size since last week and now measures half an inch long, about the size of a blueberry.
Mom
*8 weeks- The mothers breast are getting bigger and she is starting to feel fatigue.
Baby
* The babies brain, and nerve cells are branching to connect.
Mom
*9 weeks- Mother is beginning to get mood swings.
Baby
*The size of a grape and starting to look more and more human.& the baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are starting to adjust.
Mom
*12 weeks- the uterus has grown to the point where the doctor can feel it. & starting to feel heart burn.
Baby
* The baby's fingers will soon start to open and close, toes will curl, and mouth will make sucking movements. & nerve cells are starting to multiply fast, and in the baby's brain, synapses are forming.
Second Trimester (Months 4-6)
*14 weeks- Energy is returning, breasts may feel less tender, and the queasiness may have completely left by now. & the uterus is a bit above the pubic bone, which may be enough to push the tummy out a bit.
Baby
*The baby can now squint, frown, grimace, and pee. & because of brain impulses, the baby's facial muscles are getting to form one expression after another, and kidneys producing urine.
Mom
*17 weeks- feel a little unsteady on your feet and eyes becoming drier.
Baby
*The baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord, and the placenta is growing stronger and thicker. The baby is also around 5 inches long and can move joints, and sweat glands are starting to develop.
Mom
*21 weeks- Mom is prone to varicose veins, increased pressure on the veins in legs, and higher progesterone levels.
Baby
*The baby is starting to move more and the baby's eyebrows and lids are present now, and if having a girl, her vagina is starting to form also.
Mom
*25 weeks- Hair may look more fuller than ever. It's not because, mom is growing more hair, but thanks to hormonal changes, it's not shedding. & mom can move more gracefully which means mom can start to do light exercise again.
Baby
*Baby measure 13 1/2 inches and wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and look more like a newborn.
Third Trimester (Months 7-9)
*28 weeks- This is the third and final trimester and most women will gain about a pound per week this trimester & at this point, they'll be more visits to the doctor every two weeks. Depending on the mothers risk factors, your practitioner may recommend repeating blood tests for HIV and syphilis now to be certain of status before delivery.
Baby
*The baby at this point is able to blink and it's eyesight is also developing & the baby is able to see the light that filters in through the womb.
Mom
*31 weeks- Muscles in the uterus are tightening now, feeling these random contractions, an increase in vaginal discharge and abdominal pain or menstrual-like cramping and it's because, an increase in pressure in the pelvic area. & also may have noticed some leaking of "premilk," from breast.
Baby
*The baby is 16 inches long and weighs 3 1/3 pounds about the size of a coconut. The baby can also turn it's head from side to side and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out. & baby is moving a lot which means it's active and healthy.
Mom
*35 weeks-The uterus is entirely tucked away inside the pelvis when conceived and it now reaches up under the rib cage.& there's more baby than amniotic fluid in there now. Which means your ballooning uterus is crowding other internal organs, too, and that's why you probably have to pee more often and may be dealing with heartburn. & mom will start seeing the practitioner every week. Sometime between now and 37 weeks, and do a vaginal and rectal culture to check for bacteria called Group B streptococci. Also, at this time it's good to create a birth plan.
Baby
*The baby is over 18 inches long and weights 5 1/4 pounds. The kidneys are fully developed and the liver can now process some waste products.
Mom
*41 weeks- At this point mom is in labor and doctors will have to induce it depending on the condition.
