Sermon Series: Who We Are
This Sunday's Message: A Community Centered on Christ
“He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them,
‘If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me’.” (Mark 8:34)
This Sunday's Scriptures: Genesis 3:8-15 Colossians 1:15-23 Mark 8:27-38
From the desk of Pastor Paul...
Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! I hope the past few weeks of time with family and celebrating the birth of our Lord have brought refreshment to your mind, body, and spirit! Now we embark on another year of seeking to love and serve Jesus Christ!
We will begin the year by focusing on “Who We Are” as a faith community over these next few weeks. We will take time in worship to reflect on our mission statement: “OLCC,P is a faith community centered on Jesus Christ, being transformed together by God’s grace, sent into the world.” What does that statement tell us about who we are and who we are called to be as a faith community? And what implications does that have for our life together?
This week we will reflect on being a faith community centered on Jesus Christ as we look together at Mark 8:27-38. Take some time before worship on Sunday to read this passage where Jesus interacts with his disciples about who he is and who he is called to be in his life and ministry. Jesus is the model for who we are called to be together. So as we consider his words, we will discover his calling for us.
See you Sunday,
Pastor Paul

Words of Gratitude to the OLCC,P Deacons
"Thank you doesn't seem enough to express my heartfelt gratitude foryour generosity when you donated $650 towards Leo's hearing aids. He is such a kindhearted, 10-year-old boy. It is so wonderful to see him now taking some risks and talking a lot more with his friends. He is also smiling all the time!
Before his hearing aids, there were some days he would only talk to me. It warms my heart to see him laughing and talking with his friends! This is all possible because of your generosity. Thank you for making such a big difference in Leo's life!
Best wishes for the merriest Christmas and a blessed new year!"

January 14 - CPR/AED Class
Why Learn CPR?
When the heart suddenly stops beating (cardiac arrest) or beats in a chaotic manner (ventricular fibrillation), CPR and defibrillation are two first-line treatments that increase chances of survival.
Why should you learn CPR?
- To know early warning signs of heart attack and stroke so that chances of survival can be increased through early treatment.
- To have the knowledge and presence of mind to know just what steps to take in the event of a heart-related or stroke-related emergency.
- To increase your own sense of well-being and confidence by learning rescue breathing and chest compression techniques.
Along with learning CPR, you will also learn how to use the automated external defibrillator (AED) equipment at OLCC,P. AED is a device that checks a person’s heart and delivers an electric shock if it has stopped beating.
Class will be held Sunday, January 14 at 12pm. The cost is $10. Please sign up in the Lakeview Area by January 10, 2018. Questions about the class? Call our Faith Community Nurse, Emily, at 248-346-7062.
Saturday, January 20: OLCC,P Clean-up

Per Capita for OLCC,P Requested by Jan. 28
Per capita is a fundamental way in which all Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregations support the work of the wider Church. (To learn more about the importance of the per capita offering, click here.
Each year it costs OLCC,P over $25 for each member. When the full amount is not covered by the congregation, the money comes out of our Mission Budget. If all of the members of OLCC,P would prayerfully consider paying their own family’s per capita, it would allow your Mission Committee to have more to give to others in need.
The 2018 Per Capita offering is $26.33 per OLCC,P member. We would greatly appreciate your per capita on January 28. (If you use offering envelopes, a Per Capita envelope is included.)
