Cougar Chronicles
August 12, 2022
Dear LSE Family,
On behalf of all the faculty and staff at Lee's Summit Elementary, we want to welcome you to our LSE School Family! We hope everyone has had a refreshing summer! We are working hard to prepare our building and classrooms for the 2022 - 2023 school year! This is the part of year where excitement truly builds for staff, students and families! We are so looking forward to seeing all of the families we know so well and meeting all of our new LSE Cougars! We have MANY new faces joining our faculty and our student body this year. It will be so exciting to start our year without so many restrictions in place so we can see faces and hold events to create that family atmosphere we have missed over the last few years.
To our new LSE families, I am Mrs. Tracy Sanders, the Principal at LSE. This will be my 12th year as principal at Lee's Summit Elementary and my 16th year serving as a head principal. I am so excited for this school year and to welcome all of you to join our Cougar Community.
Each week we will send our building newsletter in a link to your email titled "Cougar Chronicles". You will simply click on the link and be able to see important news, information about happenings in the building and district, celebrations, and lots of other information you will be able to use as a family. The email will come through our district messaging system called School Messenger. It is vital you do not block this system as this is also how you receive important information from the district regarding upcoming events, updates, snow days etc.
You will also want to also join our Lee's Summit Elementary Cougar Community Schoology Group with access code J3MR-7673-6W362. You can always reach out to us via email or calling our front office at 816-986-3340.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Tracy Sanders, Principal

MEET OUR NEW FACULTY
Mrs. Oehring - Librarian
My name is Kim Oehring. I have been in education for the past 16 years. In 2005, I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I was a classroom teacher for 12 years. Each year, I served on the Benchmarking Team to create formal assessments that would align with state standards. In 2018, I earned my Master of Science degree in Career and Technical Education and also obtained my Library Media Specialist certification.
For the past 4 years, I have enjoyed being a Library Media Specialist. In those 4 years, I had the opportunity to launch a brand new maker space to integrate technology in classrooms. I have had the pleasure of working with teachers and students as we aligned technology and literacy with the curriculum to make learning more engaging. I have also worked diligently to add current and relevant literature to our library to keep our students excited about reading. I am passionate about teaching and helping students develop a love for reading.
Mrs. Strickland - Special Education
Special Education. My masters degree is in Curriculum and Instruction, and I am currently taking classes toward my Ed.S in Educational Leadership.
I have been married to my wonderful husband Michael for 16 years. We have a 14 year old daughter (Makayla) and a 12 year old son (BJ). Makayla is a freshman at Lee’s Summit North High School and BJ is a 6th grader at Richardson Elementary School. As a family we love to
take long road trips to other states, watch football, and hang out for family night!
I am extremely excited to join the team at Lee’s Summit Elementary
School and look forward to meeting staff, students, parents, and other
members of the LSR7 community!
Mrs. Brunson - Kindergarten
I love, love, love being a teacher and am so thankful that I get to do this for a living. Next year will be my sixth year in education. Multiple of those years have been spent in kindergarten and two years I taught first grade in an ESL classroom in Texas. I have a bachelors degree in behavioral science/ psychology, teaching certification through Texas Teachers, coursework completed towards a Masters in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Masters in Educational Leadership. I will begin a reading science certificate program through Mount St. Joseph University in May.
Prior to teaching, I was a social worker in the foster care system for many years and even spent a little time right out of college serving as the Director of Children’s Ministries in the church I grew up in.
I cannot wait to start building relationships with students, families and all of you!
Mrs. Reising - 2nd Grade
She is experienced in working with students from Title 1 schools and ELL populations! We are so excited to have her join our family. Mrs. Reising was introduced in the spring as Ms. Bush to our returning community! We are excited that she has recently gotten married!
Mr. Lee - 5th Grade
He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Elementary Administration.
Mr. Lee is also an Army Veteran where he served as a medic! He is passionate about relationships, math, and science! He is excited about joining the LSE family!
Mrs. Jorgenson - Special Education Paraprofessional
Ms. Allen - Playground Supervisor/Resource Aide
Ms. Ireland - Cafeteria Supervisor/Resource Aide
Mrs. Carlson - School Nurse
Hello LSE Family! I'm so excited to be joining as your school nurse. I received my nursing degree in 2012 from Methodist College in Peoria, IL. Before moving to the KC area with my husband and youngest daughter in 2021, I was a school nurse in Illinois for the past 6 years. My husband Morgan and I have been married for 23 years. We have three young adult children-Savannah, Logan, and McKenna. No grandchildren yet, but 2 weddings in 2023. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, visiting our children in Alabama and Florida, playing with our fur babies, and exploring the KC area.
Ms. Harris - 5th Grade Orchestra
Mrs. Jani Douglas - Night Custodian
Just a tidbit about myself and my fabulous wee family. My hard working wonderful husband Larry has lived here in LS his entire life. Our fabulous daughters Stevie Raelyn and Lanna have flown the nest and are doing well forging their individual paths.

LSE School Safety Considerations
- If students forget something at home, there will be an "Oops" table outside on the front porch. Familes can leave the item on the table with a sticker on the item - student's name/grade/teacher and we will deliver the item to the classroom.
- If a student is tardy or brought to school late - the adult dropping off the student will call the office at 816-986-3340 - state the reason for being late. The student will be welcomed into LSE.
- Visitors and Volunteers will be allowed back this year after the first two weeks of school. Lunchroom visitors will be welcomed to eat lunch with their child.
- No visitors are allowed on the playground or past the cafeteria without prior approval.
- Volunteers must go through district training and be vetted through our vistor management system.
- All visitors will be greeted through the intercom system on the porch.
- All visitors and volunteers must enter and exit through the front door on Green Street, check in through the office, and wear a visible badge.
- Please SLOW Down through our school zones on Green and 2nd Street!
- Please Stop and wait for our crossing guards and be courteous of our school buses.
- Parents of Car Riders can not line up until after 3:45 - we have students on the playground until 3:45.
- Please DO NOT drop students off in the middle of the street on Wilson or Green Street - we can not see them around cars and buses - that is what our car rider line is for!
