A Word from Robin Wheatley, Principal

Dear MPA families,

What an exciting day we had yesterday! We began in the Peace Garden with a beautiful ceremony honoring International Peace Day. Miss Darcy, Miss Tanya, and Mr. Tyler did a wonderful job leading our students in a celebration of Montessori and the message of peace, with the ceremony culminating in a beautiful song, “Light a Candle for Peace.” Thank you to our staff and students in joining schools across the world in celebrating this message and bringing much needed peace and joy to others.

In addition to International Peace Day, we ended yesterday with a short assembly in the gym to celebrate our MPA readers. MPA read the most minutes for the Jeffco Public Library Summer Challenge for the option/charter school category. Thank you Ms. Heather and the Jeffco Public Library staff for bringing us this presentation of an award and $800 donation to our school. Read on, MPA!

It is difficult to believe we are almost to October and fall conferences. These conferences provide an excellent opportunity for your child’s teacher to communicate progress and answer any questions. Please know that all of our staff are dedicated and passionate about supporting all of the children in our school. If you have any concerns as the year progresses, please first reach out to your child’s teacher to discuss. This is a crucial first step in addressing concerns and shows your respect for our teachers and their hard work. I know that each and every teacher values being able to address any concerns directly with you.

Finally, please note the October count information below. The majority of our funding is based on Per Pupil Revenue. A count is taken of all students in attendance on October 2. Our funding is based on the number of students present. Please try to reschedule any appointments. If you have an inflexible commitment, please try to have your student present when attendance is taken in the morning before heading off to any appointments.

We thank you for all of the support you provide your students and our school, such as the bagels and coffee provided by PTA for staff today. Enjoy the long weekend and be safe!

IMPORTANT SCHOOL FUNDING: October Count

It’s official – October Count Day this year is Monday, October 2.

The most important action you can take to support school funding is to make sure your student attends school on that day. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on student count, so we encourage you to make sure your student comes to school that day.

The “count window” the state observes is from Monday, September 25 through Monday, October 9, but the most important student count day is Monday, October 2. Help us get an accurate count by having your student participate in learning that day.

If your student will be absent on Monday, October 2 due to illness, please call our attendance line, [303-948-5991 or the main number 303-972-2627] to report the absence. Attendance during the “count window” will help counteract an absence on Monday, October 2.

Thank you for your support of Montessori Peaks Academy. Every student counts!

Dewey's Dash

The Dewey’s Dash fundraiser has begun. This fundraising effort helps support our children's experience and learning through discovery, materials, and creates additional opportunities and adventures for our children. We appreciate all of your efforts to support our school!

Before and After School Care Updates

Due to the extremely high demand for before and after school care, we are adjusting the procedure for submitting care request calendars. Starting in January 2024, enrollment will no longer be based on a month-to-month calendar submission. Instead, care requests will be submitted on a semester-long calendar which allows reservation of spots for particular days of the week based on your needs.

If something comes up, and you need to alter your previously submitted semester calendar or add additional days of drop-in care, you may contact the program director, Alexander Yeck-Petty, for possible adjustments to your schedule. We understand that this new system reduces flexibility for families. However, this adjustment has been made after extensive deliberation with MPA leadership in order to provide service to the greatest number of families possible.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please reach out to the program director, Alexander Yeck-Petty, with any questions.

Garden Shed

We extend a heartfelt thank you to all volunteers that helped Ms. Lucyna and Mr. Nick build the garden shed! It is almost complete. We just need help installing the door. Please reach out to Ms. Lucyna or Mr. Nick if you are able to help with this. We thank them both for organizing this work.

After School Enrichment Programs

The After School Enrichment Programs have begun. Chess Wizards does have space to sign up directly with the organization. It is very helpful if you notify your teacher that your student will be attending a program. Please look at the dates carefully as many are in 6 week intervals. Thank you for patience while we were preparing and organizing the classes.
