Happy New Year! 2020 is here…and January is filled with helpful resources for you and your students. Get ready to mark your calendar!
Parent Wellness Education continues with grade-specific Counselor Coffees taking place 1/13 – 1/17. You’ll want to attend! We also invite you to join us for our PTO meeting on Wednesday evening, 1/15.
For students, the 1/21 Lunch & Learn addresses Goal Setting. Then on 1/25, our PTO partner Huntington Learning Center will offer small group SAT® Prep testing. Spots can be reserved at http://irvine.huntingtonhelps.com/practicetest/2940. Plus, a new program is being shaped by the BHS Career Center that allows YOU to share career experiences directly with students! Look for more details about the “Meet the Professionals” career insights series.
We also have a fantastic January event planned for families, parents and students…Orchard Hills and Beckman PTOs will host a special evening in the Beckman Gym on 1/29. Our Challenge Success Community Night will include presentations, wellness booths and food trucks. Guest speakers include Challenge Success’ School Program Director, Margaret Dunlap. Circle the date, and check out the flyer.
PTO also thanks our generous sponsors Zov’s Restaurants and Teen Road to Safety Driving School.
Robotics Heating Up
On Saturday, December 7th, four of our Beckman Robotics teams competed in the TUSD VEX Robotics tournament (the other 2 volunteered to help with the event). 36 teams participated in the event and after the qualification rounds, three of the beckman teams ended up in the top six, with 2496X going undefeated. As the #1 seed, the X team ended up winning the tournament while the N team won the overall excellence award. This means all 6 of our teams are now qualified for state! Along with that, our J team were Skills Champions and reclaim the #1 ranking in California.
