Bus Company Information
In an effort to better communicate with families regarding bus service we would like to remind parents to enroll in Durham’s TextCaster service. Attached is a list showing the number of people who have signed up for TextCaster at your school. If you would like to include the following information in your school newsletters/flyers it will assist in getting the word out. Also, we encourage all principals to sign up for this service if they haven’t done so previously.
Did you know you must register for Durham TextCaster each new school year to stay informed and receive texts about your student’s bus service? Signing up is easy. Visit www.bluevalleydurham.com and follow the link to TextCaster.
Please note that Durham’s TextCaster service looks much the same as the Blue Valley Alerts System. Durham’s TextCaster’s service is specific to bus information and Blue Valley Alerts is used to notify staff and parents in the event of an emergency or school closure due to inclement weather. Registration for each service is separate.

ELA Letter
Our ELA/reading team is looking forward to an exceptional year. To maximize the growth and potential of your child in reading, writing, and speaking, PSM is fortunate to have two classes daily to support the ELA/reading curriculum. The following details the organization, reporting, and grading of the ELA/reading curriculum.
The skills taught in ELA are reinforced and practiced in reading. Due to this, the same teacher is scheduled for both classes. The targets taught by your child’s ELA/reading teacher span literature, informational text, writing, speaking and listening, and language objectives. With the overlap in curriculum, a combined or shared grade is given for these classes.
Combined grades occur through a transfer/copy of the grade by the teacher from ELA to reading. As you use ParentVUE and StudentVUE to track progress, be aware that reading will not have a list of assignments throughout the quarter. Rather, at the conclusion of a grading period, the reading grade is recorded as a single item mirroring the overall ELA grade. Essentially, they are the same grade. Throughout the quarter, only track assignments through ELA. This will include missing assignments, upcoming tasks, and assessments for both classes in one spot.
Our goal is to make this transition as seamless as possible for students and families. If you have any additional questions, please contact your ELA/reading teacher.
Sincerely,
Heath Sigg
