Friday Message from Dr. Glaze
As we bring the first semester of school to a close, I am pleased to see our students and staff keep a momentum of focus to finish the first half of the year strong. Focus on quality teaching, focus on being engaged and connected with school and focus on showing kindness to one another with our words and with our actions.
I also want to share my appreciation to all the individuals in our district who have stayed the course on our construction projects that are bringing TCSC world-class education spaces. While it’s been hectic, and even inconvenient at times, every day we see progress. The students and staff impacted by these building changes have shown amazing flexibility and collaboration as they transition from the old spaces and back into the new. This community has shown unwavering support and continues to help build a destination district that is a point of pride for all of us. We are creating tomorrow’s global citizens and local leaders in learning environments that inspire curiosity, collaboration, and improved student outcomes.
On the topic of construction and ongoing projects throughout the campus, the high school student parking lot is expected to be available for use by the end of next week; the TMS/THS Media Center will be open after winter break, and the new THS Science/Robotics classroom is expected to be open by mid-January. Work continues on the new restrooms in the TES cafeteria. During break demolition will begin on our 3rd grade wing at TES. Thank you to all the teachers, students, and TESO for assisting with the move. We are also pleased to report that our new middle school PA system will be fully operational after the break. Supply chain issues impacted our ability to have the new system in place after the start of the new school year.
Congratulations to seniors Abigail (Abby) Phillips and Clark Rodibaugh. Abby received the 2023 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship (LECS) for Tipton County. Abby plans to pursue a degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at Butler University. Clark was among four Tipton County students awarded the Myerly Scholarship. Clark was awarded the scholarship because he was a LECS finalist. He plans to attend the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University where he will focus on Business and Entrepreneurship.
The Tipton Community Foundation (TCF) administers the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. The Myerly Scholarship is one of over 50 scholarships available through endowment funds at TCF. TCF’s scholarship application process opens January 1, 2023. Learn more about available scholarships here.
With Christmas break beginning on Thursday, December 22, what better way to get into the holiday spirit than by listening to some of the best Christmas songs of the season performed by members of our award-winning high school band! The THS Band Department’s annual Christmas Celebration CD has just been released and is available for $10. Contact Matt Skiba at mskiba@tcsc.k12.in.us to order your copy today!
Thank you for supporting our children, teachers, and staff and helping to make TCSC an amazing place to teach, learn, and belong. We look forward to seeing everyone back on campus for the start of the second semester on Tuesday, January 3, 2023!
From our family to yours, Merry Christmas! #BlueFuture
Three Honored at TCSC Board Meeting
On Tuesday, three outgoing members of the Tipton Community School Board were honored. Gary Plumer, April Overdorf, and Chris McNew were recognized for his commitment, dedication, and service to the school corporation. Plumer (City of Tipton) and Overdorf (Cicero Township), who both held leadership positions and served on a number of board committees, did not seek another term. Plumer competed three full terms plus finishing out a partial term prior to being elected to his seat. McNew, who joined the board in 2019, was unsuccessful in his bid for a second term representing the City of Tipton.
“Being a board member is an incredible responsibility not to mention a way of life,” said TCSC Superintendent, Dr. Ryan Glaze, of the time, commitment, and work involved in being a member of a successful school board. “Their passion to serve and make a meaningful impact have been evident in all they have done throughout their tenure, from navigating budget challenges, championing teacher and staff compensation, COVID, improved safety protocols, multi-million dollar infrastructure new construction and upgrades, and realignment of student transportation. Thanks in part to their leadership, experience, and service, our district prospered. We are all better because of having Gary, April, and Chris as members of the school board. They will be greatly missed. On behalf of the entire school district, I thank you for your service, your wisdom, and your leadership.”
Beginning January 2023, Robert Cochran (Cicero Township), Jason Springer (City of Tipton), and Eric Underwood (City of Tipton) will begin their new, four-year terms. They join Andrea Campbell (Jefferson Township), Jennifer Humrichous (City of Tipton), Amber Rodibaugh (Madison Township), and Susan Sloan (Cicero Township).
TCSC School Board consists of seven members, each elected to staggered four-year terms. The first school board meeting of the new year is set for Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Meetings are generally conducted in the Board Room at the administrative office, 1051 S. Main Street, Tipton. Last night was our grade seven World of Creativity Art Show and it was a huge success! 115 people walked through the doors and into the Community Room to view the art show, 60 of them were seventh grade artists. The pictures above are works from our outstanding 7th Grade artists. Thank you, Mrs. Light for this wonderful display of student art!
