A Message from Principal Nixon--Week of November 25, 2019
Dear Northwoods Families,
As we move into Thanksgiving week, I'd like to extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all that you have done to support our teachers, staff, and students at Northwoods. Your acts of kindness and generosity make a huge difference in the lives of our students and staff and your involvement is critical to the smooth and successful operation of our school. On behalf of the teachers and staff, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving! Travel safely and enjoy spending time with loved ones.
On November 13th, our first grade students had the opportunity to assemble in the cafeteria to witness me get pied in the face. Two students from each class had the honor of doing the deed, which made for lots of laughter and quite a mess. Check out the video below. Again, on behalf of the teachers and staff, we would like to thank you all for your generous contributions during our annual Run and Done fundraiser.
Lastly, I am proud to announce that Elda McGrath, our full-time ESL teacher was crowned as our 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year. Please help us congratulate her on this special honor.
Other News and Information
As a general reminder, please DO NOT send students to school with toys, stuffed animals, trading cards (pokemon, football, basketball, etc.). These items can create major distractions and disruptions during the school day and sometimes lead to conflicts between students. We ask for your understanding and cooperation in this matter. More specific information regarding this topic can be found in the student/parent handbook, which is linked below.

Northwoods Elementary PTA Information
Our first cultural arts assembly, Japanese Magical Journey took place this past Friday!
Students were treated to a performance by Yasu Ishida, an award-winning magician and storyteller. Maybe you have heard your students talk about the definition of emojis, or the story of the moon princess, or the magic of cherry blossom petals floating like snowflakes? If not, ask your students about any of these!
To learn more about Yasu Ishida and his performance, you can visit his website at: https://www.yasutheatre.com
This performance was just one of several PTA sponsored Cultural Arts activities scheduled throughout the year.
