News and Updates

Hello Orenco Families! We are looking forward to the start of a new year! And, while we would wish for different circumstances, we will always come with a positive attitude, determination, and will still deliver quality instruction along with lots of love and support and kindness.

My goal is to send out an Orenco newsletter every other week on Mondays...I may need to tweak this plan, but will work on being as consistent and predictable as possible.

In service to you,

Allison Combs, Principal

Ready Schools, Safe Learners

Principal Combs is available to answer any questions or concerns you have. Please don't hesitate to reach out! Email: combsa@hsd.k12.or.us

Orenco will participate in Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) until November 5th at the earliest. November 5th is the end of the 1st quarter of school. HSD leaders will begin to view our metrics in mid-October based on the Governor's guidance and the Oregon Department of Education for next steps, if possible. Students can continue with CDL, even if our building reopens for in-person education.

Orenco Parent Advisory Committee

Principal Combs would like to have more parent input on decisions and actions at Orenco Elementary. It is your school and community! Please think about if you would like to represent your neighborhood and students and commit to working together this year.

I am looking for a diverse group of individuals from our various neighborhoods around Orenco, such as: Old historic Orenco, Villa Capri, Creekside, Orenco Woods, Stonebriar, Quatama Village, Preston Meadows, and Hall Creek Estates, and others.

Time commitment might include a one time a month virtual meeting, in addition to providing feedback through email or phone calls from time to time. Additionally, being a communication hub for your neighbors!

Let's build our community together! Email Ms. Combs if you have an interest. I will continue to send out information requesting participation. Email: combsa@hsd.k12.or.us

Chromebooks/Internet Hotspots/Tech Support

**Our GOAL***is to have every student with their own chromebook or device to access all instruction. Some students were sharing in the spring, so please stay in touch if you will need a chromebook. You may return your Chromebook to Orenco, as well.

***Coming soon: Tentative dates of September 8-11 to distribute chromebooks/hotspots and class materials (whiteboards, math tools, etc.).

Student/Family Technology Help Desk
Students and their families can call 503-844-1562 or 503-844-1568 (Spanish) to access technical support. Hours are Monday through Friday 7:30-4:00. Access the same services by emailing techhelp@hsd.k12.or.us.

Fundraisers at Orenco--FYI

Fundraisers have been a part of our school community and have supported a variety of activities, supplies, field trips, etc over the past years for our students. As we look to next year we need to make sure we follow ODE guidelines for safely engaging students in school based and school sponsored activities. Therefore, any organization or team must work with their school principal prior to starting any fundraising activities for safety and compliance. We know that many of our families have been impacted in different ways regarding COVID-19 and want to make sure that you know there is no expectation to participate and/or donate in any of our fundraising events unless you feel comfortable and capable of doing so. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out to Allison Combs, Principal at combsa@hsd.k12.or.us and/or Pamela Lamm, PTO President at info@orencoboosterclub.org

Thank you to the volunteers who are keeping Orenco beautiful this summer! Much appreciation to the families and individuals who are keeping flower beds watered and weeded.

Our facilities are closed. Please do not remove caution tape or other barriers on the play structures. We ask that everyone follows the guidelines for groups and social distancing.
