Dear Duveneck Families,
Teacher Appreciation Week
Next week, May 4-8, 2020 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Since 1984, the National PTA has designated the first week in May as a special time to honor all teachers who devote their passion and skills to educating our children. Given the challenging times we are living in right now, here are some ideas you can do to celebrate and honor your teacher from home:
- Email heartfelt letters, cards and messages of appreciation
- Create artwork, poems and video messages to celebrate your teachers
- Send your teacher a virtual award
- On Thursday, upload a #TBT (throwback Thursday) photo of you and your teacher and thank them for being your teacher
With a little more than five and half weeks left in school, our distance learning rhythms and routines of teaching and learning are starting to come together. With that said, I am also keenly aware that we are all 'hitting the wall' knowing that we still have five and half weeks to go. Collectively we have walked a road we have never walked before. We have had to face changes that we have never faced nor thought we would ever face in our lifetime. As teachers, we were thrust into an overnight paradigm shift from teaching students in a classroom to teaching students from a computer. Finally, parents were thrust into the role of 'teacher' and are truly experiencing the joys and frustrations of guiding and educating their own children while working their jobs and maintaining their household responsibilities. All of you are heroes in my book. Thank you for your hard work, commitment and love for our Duveneck students.
My words of wisdom for all of you is to keep following your established routines, use the amazing lessons and curriculum that the teachers are providing and read, read, read with your children. Take time to breath, find ways to bring lightness and fun into your homes and above all else, practice grace, love and tolerance. We are all doing the best we can, we are all in this together and in the end, our students will be fine. Please reassure your children that they are and will be ok matter what.
What a story we will tell one day in the future about how our world sheltered in place in the year 2020!
Warm Wishes,
Leslie Crane
