Burnette Blast
August 2022
We Are Off To a Great Start!
What a great start to the 2022-2023 school year! I have loved seeing our students come back, having fun with their friends, getting to know their teachers, and showing how excited they are to learn!
This year we are wanting to streamline our communication process with you. First, the Burnette Blast newsletter will be sent quarterly (versus every month). The Blast will highlight the awesome activities we had the past several months and highlight what is coming up. We will utilize our SchoolMessenger system (email and text) to share just-in-time information as it arrises. Our hope is to communicate smaller chunks of information at a time so it is easier to read. We will also continue to utilize our Social Media Platforms (Facebook and Instagram) to share all the fun and exciting learning that happens at Burnette every day! Also, every classroom teacher will utilize Class Dojo to communicate with their parents. This is an awesome app that you can download on your phone that allows you to text with your child's teacher and for your teacher to post important information to the entire class. If you haven't signed up with Class Dojo yet, you will receive more information during our upcoming Curriculum Night.
Just a reminder, in order to ensure that our school building is as safe and secure as possible, our front office staff will be fully utilizing our video entry system this school year. This means you will be asked to share why you are visiting the school before you are allowed to enter the building.
We are going to have an amazing year together! I hope that you and your family have an amazing summer! If there is anything I can do to support you, please don't hesitate to reach out: 678-546-2170, sally.lehmann@gcpsk12.org.
Your Proud Principal,
Dr. Sally Lehmann

Lunchroom Visitors
After signing in and securing a visitor badge, parents should meet their child at the entrance to the cafeteria. Please allow your child to follow his/her normal routine in the cafeteria line. Feel free to bring a lunch with you or to purchase lunch at the adult bar ($3.75). Please be aware that during certain lunch periods we have limited seating. We do have picnic tables available outside as well for you to enjoy. When leaving the cafeteria parents should not escort students back to the classroom. Parents must sign out before leaving.

Student Check-Out Reminders
If early checkout is necessary, you should plan to do so prior to 3:00 PM. This is necessary in order to provide a safe and timely dismissal for all students.
A parent wishing to check out his or her child any time prior to 3:00 PM should send a note to the teacher that morning explaining the reason. The parent should then come to the front or lower lobby to sign out the student. It usually takes 5-10 minutes for a student to arrive after they are called for checkout. If the student is on the playground or in a “special”, it may take longer. Please plan accordingly.
For safety reasons, we release students only to those persons listed as an enrolling parent or an emergency contact. You must bring your ID. If anyone not listed attempts to check out a student, the office staff and/or an administrator will contact the enrolling parent. Please do not go to the classroom to check out a student. Teachers are instructed not to release a student to anyone unless the office staff has notified them to do so.

Media Center Updates
BES Families, our reading challenges for this year are underway! Our kindergarten, first, and second-grade students received their reading challenge coloring sheet for August. Complete the entire paper and return it to school by September 1 to earn a reading paw and be entered in a drawing for a free book!
For our third, fourth, and fifth-grade students, all challenges will be in Beanstack this year. Students will log completed books into their Beanstack account to earn reading paws and prizes. The best way to use Beanstack is to download the app!
We loved welcoming our Kindergarten and pre-K students to Burnette with a free book during our Bookmobile visit this month. We also got to celebrate all of our students who completed their summer reading challenges! Well done, BES Readers!
Does your child SHINE outside of school? We love hearing about our students' successes beyond our walls! Dance recitals, karate belts, violin concerts- share those moments with us and we will put them on the LNN News morning show. You may send a 30-second or less video clip OR up to 3 pictures to Mrs. Costilow. Please include your child's name, grade, teacher, and information about the achievement. traci.costilow@gcpsk12.org
BES Families, if you are interested in volunteering in the Media Center, we'd love to have your help! We plan to start using adult volunteers in September. Please fill out this form if you are interested: https://forms.office.com/r/NgKU6ueG0F
