Spring Break

West Families,

As we approach spring break and the cases of Covid in Bay County continue to rise, please be sure to monitor your child prior to sending them to school. We will be starting our state assessment (MSTEP) in April and we want to make sure everyone is able to take the test in the appropriate timeline given by the state. The test must also be taken in person and is not something that we can have students take remotely.

Remember the three W's

  1. Wear a mask
  2. Wash your hands
  3. Watch your distance

We hope you have a terrific spring break and come back healthy and eager to learn as we finish up the home stretch of the 2020-2021 school year!

Sincerely,

Craig Pfenninger

Bangor West Principal

One District, One Book

This year, we will all be reading the same book at the same time across the district from staff to students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. More exciting news will come on Thursday, April 8th, when we officially kick off our new book. There will be a pacing schedule sent out and it typically takes an adult about 10 minutes of reading a night to keep up with the pace. Students may take longer to read each day to stay on pace. It's a great book to read aloud with your child and we hope to continue reading and having conversations with others after our conclusion of March being reading month.

Yearbooks 20-21

If you already purchased a yearbook online, you will be reimbursed for the amount you paid. We will be using our leftover fundraising money from last year to purchase yearbooks for every student. More details to come on how you will be refunded if you have already paid.

Kindergarten Registration Open

If you know of someone who needs to enroll in Young 5's or Kindergarten, our online registration started Monday, March 1st! The sooner you enroll, the better the chances of having the elementary school you'd prefer in Bangor. Younger siblings will follow their older siblings to the building they currently are in. Please see the image below for more details or contact our office.

Requests

If you would like to make a teacher request for next year, the window will open up after spring break. Please read the future newsletters for more information.

Also, keep in mind that we will try to meet the requests but there are times when we are unable to make it happen. There are many variables taken into consideration when balancing classrooms from the number of boys/girls, peer relations, academics, behaviors, attendance, supports needed, etc. Parent input is one piece of many that we look at.

Parking Concerns

Please remember to use the east side lot ONLY for parent drop-off and pick up. This includes times when you are dropping your child off late or picking them up early from school. The west parking lot is for staff and busses ONLY. Our busses are already navigating in a tight area and cars continue to utilize that space and move in and out of our buses putting our students and bus drivers in danger.

If you arrive early for your child, do not take up parking spaces until your child is dismissed. It's appreciated if you drive around the block and come back into the lot to avoid the congestion. Our pick-up lot is typically empty by 3:15 and students will wait outside with an adult until then.

Masks should also be worn outside while picking up your child at the end of the day.

If you have any questions please let us know and we will be happy to give you guidance.

Late Arrival

If you know your child is arriving late, please call the office prior to 9:00 to make their lunch choice, otherwise, they will be receiving a choice two. You also have the option to bring your own lunch daily.

Brain Breaks

Each week we will have a magician perform a Brain Break utilizing videos of our students and staff. It is a great way to stay connected and promote positivity through our building while also learning a little magic they can practice at home. Click on this link to check out the site where all of our videos will be hosted.
