Mrs. Jenzen's Rockin Room

Welcome to October!

Can you believe we are already through the first month of school! The kids are now into the routine of the day and week and things are running pretty smoothly. Last month we spent a lot of time working on things together, we are now moving into more independent work time.

This month in Math we will be working with subtraction and mental math. We will also dive into BAR Models for solving word problems at the end of the month.

In Reading we will be reviewing Setting and Character, Locating Information and Dictionary Skills. We will wrap up our 1st unit the week of MEA. After our break we will begin working with Facts and Opinions.

Be sure to practice the vocabulary words each week with your child. Use them in sentences as well as define them. Taking time to read the story of the week is also helpful for them. Discuss it as they read it with you. They are tested on the story and vocabulary words each Friday.

October Book Orders

October's Book Order is in your child's Wednesday folder this week. Please take some time to look at this with your child. This is a great way to purchase books at a reasonable price. Any book purchased will also earn points for book purchases for our classroom library as well.

Book orders are due on Wednesday, October 7th. If you choose to place the order online, I will be notified of the order. If you send in your order, please make checks payable to Scholastic.

Thanks so much!

Circus

We had a great time at the circus last month! Two students from Ripley got to be volunteers in one of the circus acts! Make sure to ask your child about it! Here are a few pictures from the act!
