Mrs. Naugle is Honored!
Mrs. Naugle has been nominated for the 2017 “Makers of Change Award.” Each year Community Action of Southern Indiana recognizes the people who are making a difference in their community. Mrs. Naugle’s work will be celebrated at a banquet on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Congratulations Mrs. Naugle! We are grateful to have your gifts at SMS.
Let's Improve...
1- Breakfast. We're thrilled to have so many students participating in our breakfast program. A healthy breakfast feeds your brain. But unhealthy dining room behavior squashes the joy out of participating students and staffers responsible to help maintain the area. If you are going to eat breakfast, please make sure you follow all normal dining rules. Stay seated. Enjoy your meal. And clean up your table and floor. If you are not going to eat, we need you to go to the Great Room to talk with friends.
2- Attendance Notes. If you are absent from school, you are considered TRUANT until we get notification from a parent/guardian. The best notification is a call to school on the morning you miss. If that is not possible, please bring a parent excuse note to the office the very first morning of your return. You have two days to clear an absence. After that, you get called down to the office every morning (missing class, not cool) until you clear the absence. Truancies that are not cleared turn into discipline. Let's all avoid any attendance hassle by clearing any quarter 2 absence on time!!
Thank you!!
Dodgeball Tourney Plans
Our 2nd annual Dodgeball Tournament is Tuesday, October 17th from 3:30-6:30!
Players and spectators read on...
Players - Change into your team attire right after school. Report to the west gym bleachers by 3:10. Tournament rules and other information will be presented. After the meeting, the gyms will be open for spectators.
Spectators- Student spectators should report to the main hall immediately after school. Wait there until the admission stand opens at approximately 3:20. Admission is $3. Parent attendees should arrive after 3:15 and park in the activity lot.
Once admitted, spectators can watch games in either gym. Please use the PE hall to go between gyms (not the locker hall). Concessions will be available. The tournament bracket will be posted in the PE hall. The tournament is double elimination so all teams have at least two games.
Have your rides ready to pick you up at 6:30 sharp. If you are in the choir concert at SHS that night, you can still attend the tourney and head straight to the high school when you are picked up!
Good luck to all players, officials, and event security staff!
Spectators cheer loud and have fun!
SMS Parent-Student-Teacher Conference - YOUR JOBS
Our first of two conference nights occurs our first week after break! Regardless of what night a family chooses to attend, here is a rundown of the things students will be responsible for during conferences.
Present your Portfolio All conference experiences will start with a presentation of the portfolio. Sit with your parent/guardian. Open up your portfolio on your iPad. Show your parent how to navigate the website. Make sure your parent sees your artifacts and your reflections. Answer any questions that your parent may have!
Meet with Teachers Introduce your teachers to your parents and join in as teachers share your strengths and your growth targets. Listen carefully as you'll likely be asked to join in on the conversation.
Pick up your Data Sheets Be sure to pick up your spring 2017 ISTEP+ results and your fall 2017 NWEA Progress Report when you see your teachers. These documents are yours to keep.
Attend an Info Session Learn all you can by stopping in at the 21st Century Scholarship table at the purple triangle and by attending a 10-minute info session in the Great Room. The info sessions are listed below.
NWEA: What Parents Need to Know (10 minutes at the :00 and :30 of each hour on both appointment and drop-in nights) Miss Nass will share the basics of NWEA reports and how SMS plans to use them to help learners.
New Paths to Success @ SHS (10 minutes at the :15 and :30 of each hour on drop-in night) SCSD2 Transition Coordinator Shannon Mount will give a quick introduction about all of the paths to success at SHS (individual college credit courses, standard core college courses, and the new associates degree option).
