Scholastic Book Fair November 16-20

I cannot believe it is book fair time already! Our Scholastic Book Fair is scheduled to arrive this week and will be up and running starting Monday! I will send home letters/flyers on Friday. Your students will visit during scheduled library times and I plan to hold extended hours on Thursday November 19th. It would be helpful if you have your students bring paper and a pencil when they visit the book fair so they can write down any titles that aren't in the preview flyer.

Hour of Code

During the week of December 7-13, Diana and I will be participating with students in the worldwide Hour of Code event. "This event is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics! Anybody can host an Hour of Code anytime, but the grassroots campaign goal is for tens of millions of students to try an Hour of Code during the week, in celebration of Computer Science Education Week. Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path."

The National Endowment for the Humanities has a wonderful website for teachers! Included on the site are various resources to support lesson plans or use as stand alone activiites. A Lesson Plan Library is available that includes: Art & Culture, Foreign Language, History/Social Studies, and Literature & Language. Once you choose the appropriate topic plans can be searched by grade level, subtopics and number of class periods available for the topic. The link below will take you to EDSITEment.

Fun for Little Falcons....

I've recently come across Alina Celeste on YouTube. I used one of her Pete the Cat storytime videos with Kindergarten and it was a hit, so I thought I'd share her channel with you. In addition to storytime, she does, sing-a-longs(even a few in Spanish) and fingerplays. To check out all of her content, you can head to Alina Celeste's YouTube Channel.
