No Place Like Jones
Parent Updates for the Week of 11.01.21
Principal Corner
Dear Ira B. Jones Families:
Can you believe today is the last day of October? Where has the time gone?
We enjoyed seeing our students dress up as their favorite characters, idioms, giant squids, and dominoes. Check out our FaceBook page for pictures.
Report cards will go home on Tuesday, November 2. Enclosed is a permission form to test your child for Covid at school when they show symptoms. We will always notify you, of course, but the permission to test will be helpful when a child is showing symptoms, and we can't reach parents. Please sign and return to your child's teacher.
Additional Report Card Information:
- Kindergarten Families: In addition to the COVID permission form, you will find a letter sharing some formative assessment data your child's teacher has been collecting that will show their progress so far this school year.
- K-2 Families: In addition to the COVID permission form, you will find a letter explaining that our district will no longer use proficiency reports, and moving forward, we will use a student feedback form that will share your child's progress in math, literacy, and social-emotional skills.
- 3-5 Families: In addition to the COVID permission form, you will find a letter explaining a survey we will give your students. Please read this letter carefully for details needed for your child to participate.
I encourage you to use our school's website, our Facebook page, the district's Back to School Updates Website and follow us on Twitter @Principal_IBJ as sources of information.
As a school leader and a parent, I understand the necessity of healthy communication between families and the school. I welcome your questions, celebrations, or concerns at any time. You can reach me by calling the school (828-350-6700) or via email (ruafika.cobb@acsgmail.net).
Thanks for your continued support,

Holiday B.A.Gs Sponsor
Dear Ira B. Jones Elementary Supporter:
Our staff focuses on providing all of our students with fun and positive learning experiences. They work hard to make sure students are provided with opportunities to help them develop essential skills like communication, teamwork, patience, and dedication.
Each year, we have requests from families for support with gifts for the holidays. We make available holiday B.A.Gs (Books, Art Supplies, and Games) that keep students engaged, having fun, and learning over the winter break. This year, many of our families have requested a Holiday B.A.G for their students, and with your sponsorship, we will be able to provide lots of books, educational/board games, and art supplies to add to their home libraries and game collections.
Here is how it works:
We will give you a numbered slip for each student you sponsor that will include the age and gender of the child/ren.
You shop and purchase age-appropriate books, art supplies, and board/educational games for the child/ren you are sponsoring. The games should be simple board games, card games, and puzzles. Don’t forget to wrap the gifts and clearly label each one with the assigned number!
You may also make a monetary donation to Ira B. Jones P.T.O.’s Social Service Fund to support this effort or other year-round needs like providing families with clothes, food, or other needed supplies.
You drop off the gifts at school on or before Monday, December 6, 2021. That’s it; it’s just that simple!
Our school frequently relies on the generosity of community supporters just like you. Would you consider helping to sponsor at least one of our students this year? With your donation, we can achieve our goal of providing our students with fun and positive learning experiences during the winter break.
Please contact our School Social Worker, Ms. Abigail Owolabi, at 828.713.8300, or our Data Manager, Devin Browning, at 828.350.6707 if you have any questions or would like to arrange a sponsorship with our school.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
