Administration

Dear families,

We would like to thank the Home and School for planning and organizing an amazing Halloween Family Dance in our gymnasium last week. The students had lots of fun and are still talking about it this week! We would also like to thank our guests who brought food donations that have since been passed along to the East Dartmouth Christian Food Bank.

Sincerely,

Shawn Marsh

COVID-19 Rapid Test Kits

Absences due to various illnesses are on the rise in our school. We have rapid test kits available upon request. Please phone 902-435-8353 if you, or a member of your family, need a test kit. Our collective health depends on the work of our entire school community in seeking out available vaccines, doing frequent rapid tests, frequent hand washing, and staying home if we are symptomatic or ill. Thank you for your continued support.

Remembrance Day Assembly - November 10th at 10:40 am

Our students and staff will attend a Remembrance Day assembly in our gymnasium on Thursday, November 10th. If you are a veteran or service person we would be honored to have you join us. Please RSVP by calling our main office in advance so we can plan for guest seating. Students in Brownies, Cubs, Boy Scouts, Sparks, Guides, or Cadets are all invited to wear their uniforms on November 10th. Our teachers are preparing lessons and acitivities for our students this week so we can share our collective respect for our veterans during the assembly. Thank you to Ms. Hartery and Ms. Banks for organizing this assembly!

Lunch Monitors

We are looking to hire new lunch monitors. If this interests you, or if you know someone who would be interested, please phone Mr. Marsh at the main office.

Positive Effective Behavioural Supports (PEBS)

We are rebooting our school's PEBS program during an assembly on Friday. PEBS is a program that recognizes positive citizenship in all Nova Scotian schools. Our staff members have been given pompoms that will be used as symbolic representations of student empathy and positive behaviour around the school. We have a giant cylinder that will collect all of our pompoms and be a motivator for students each month. Each time our cylinder is filled, our students will earn a school-wide reward.

Pizza Orders

Pizza ordering is closed until our next round in January. Students who have ordered will recieve pizzas each Thursday. If students are absent, we save their pizzas in our fridge overnight. They can be picked up the next day. Thank you to our Home and School and Ms. MacLeod for making this service available in our school!

Concerts

Our staff members are engaged in conversations about having students perform in concerts during the month of December. In doing so, we are carefully considering the content of performances and songs so we can make these experiences inclusive. We are planning to have parts of the festive season but also celebrations about the joy of music and the winter months.

We are planning to showcase these performances at 11 am on December 13th (grades P-2) and December 14th (grades 3-6). We are also having conversations about the possibility of hosting evening concerts on the same dates pending the confirmation of evening volunteers. We will communicate more about this in future messages home.

December 13th - P-2 Concert (11AM)

December 14th - 3-6 Concert (11AM)

STORM DATE - December 15th
