ES Newsletter

December 2nd, 2014
Dear ES Families:
I hope that all of you enjoyed your Thanksgiving Break. We only have 11 more days of school before the Holiday Break. This will be a busy time for teachers and students as the second quarter comes to an end. Teachers will be collecting multiple assessments, projects, writing pieces, and end of the year evaluations in preparation for our report cards. These will be sent home by Friday, December 19th. If your child will be missing any school days, please communicate in advance with your child's homeroom teacher to identify ways to keep up with school responsibilities. Thanks for your continued support!
On November 19th, students participated in their monthly Color Team Activity. The focus for this month was "Peace". Students and their color team leaders discussed ways in which we can create and support peace. They read a story together, The Peace Book and each illustrated their own meaning of "peace." Lastly, each of them traced and cut out cranes which symbolize peace in many cultures. We will decorate our holiday tree in the main lobby this year with our cranes. Stop by and check it out!
The middle of the school year is a great time to set academic or personal goals with your child. In the latest Report to Parents put out by NAESP, parents can read tips on how to set goals with their children. To access this newsletter, please click on the link below.

Support our HS Club - Lead the Way
Dear Parents,
Lead the Way, a High School social-action club, is hosting an estimation game in order to collect money for their next activity—a new ecological water fountain. The first fountain will be located in High School and the goal is to put one in every building! ! This activity will be hosted in Mrs. Bhatty’s art class. The students are able to guess, for $1, how many toys, or cheese strings they think are in the jars—they can repeat as many times as they want. The winner takes the jar, and the student that guesses the closest amount of cheese strings, gets 3 movie tickets.
Thank you,
Lead the Way
After School Emergency Contact
Our individual school offices close at 4:00 p.m., which has caused a problem for parents who are trying to contact the school about after-school transportation issues later than that time. While we understand that traffic can cause delays in picking up children on time, it is very important that parents make arrangements to be on time for after-school activity pick up. In the case that there is a delay after 4:00 p.m., parents who are not able to contact their child directly by cell phone may also contact the Athletic Office 302-0037 or the Athletic Director cellular phone number 6781-1852.

This is a new section in the ES Newsletter devoted to highlighting student achievements outside of school. Please send any important student achievements to highlight in the newsletter to atorchin@balboa.edu.pa.

After School Activities & Competitive Sports
A Note from our Athletic Department:
Students may not stay after school if they are not signed up for an after school activity or have a practice for a competitive sport. Students need to be supervised after school by a teacher or coach. Please support us in our efforts to keep students safe. If a student is found on campus, parents will be notified. Thanks in advance for discussing this with your child.
Please remember that after school activities end this Thursday, December 4th.
Preschool & Kinder:
Coach Acuña offers soccer training for preschool and Kinder students after school on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 12:30 pm. Parents need to provide their own transportation back home at 2 pm. To register, please call Coach Acuña at 6713-9950. Students need to bring water, a snack, hat, and sunblock.
For more information contact Jesus Borras, After School Activities Coordinator at jeborras@balboa.edu.pa or Richard Gough at rgough@balboa.edu.pa for Competitive Sports.
