CSD shows great progress on annual performance report (apr)
The Clinton School District’s commitment to educating and empowering students to be successful and engaged adults after high school, has been affirmed by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's (DESE) Annual Performance Report (APR). The district earned the highest levels possible (On Track status and On Target status) for all three future-ready standards of the APR; College and Career Readiness, Attendance Rate and Graduation Rate.
The APR represents a report card on the academic health of Missouri school districts, and is one tool for the district’s Board of Education, administrators, and teachers to use to identify strengths and areas of growth in the district. The APR is the accountability system used in Missouri to satisfy federal and state requirements, and is comprised of scores for each of the Missouri School Improvement Program Performance Standards: 1) Academic Achievement, 2) Subgroup Achievement, 3) College and Career Readiness, 4) Attendance Rate, and 5) Graduation Rate.
In addition to earning the highest levels possible on the three future-ready standards of the APR, the Clinton School District also received exciting news regarding students’ academic progress. Out of 553 districts in the state of Missouri, the CSD was one of only 58 to receive the designation of “Exceeding” in the Progress category. This designation was received for Achievement Standards 1 and 2, including both Language Arts and Mathematics.
The district takes great pride in the 2019 APR results, the efforts made by staff and students, and the great progress that is taking place. Although these results are important, the district realizes student achievement should not be measured solely on test scores, and will continue preparing students with the skills they need to be engaged and successful adults after high school.
“Our focus since the beginning of last school year has been on progress and improvement. The results from our Annual Performance Report show that our teachers and administrators are working hard and are making a difference,” said Destry Brown, Superintendent.

brain dissection at CMS
Clinton Middle School students are playing the part of medical detectives in their STEM class.
Students are learning about the nervous system, including the different parts of the brain and the purpose they serve. In order to learn where to find these parts of the brain, students performed brain dissections on sheep brains.
This PLTW (Project Lead the Way) class is taught by Molly Glover.
High Five Friday
What makes Friday even better? When the Big Cardinals come to greet you!
Henry Elementary School students enjoy Clinton High School SALT (Student Activities Leadership Team) students visiting their school once a month for "High Five Friday".
Students enjoy starting their day with high fives, hugs and words of encouragement.
This new Bright Futures Clinton program is another way that the district is connecting students with positive role models.
New program provides exciting opportunities for CHS students
Clinton High School juniors and seniors recently had the opportunity to visit the University of Missouri.
This college visit was the first of several visits that will take place throughout the year thanks to the district's partnership with rootEd Alliance. Accompanying the students on their visit were the school's new Access Counselor, Lindy Johnson, and Guidance Counselors, Jamie McCoy and Stacy Pitts.
Students also were pleasantly surprised to see three CHS alumni during their visit.....Andy Pogue, Alaina Pogue and MacKenzie Hard.
rootEd Alliance is a collaborative philanthropic effort committed to clearing a path to a stronger future for students after high school. rootEd Alliance, in partnership with the Ayers Foundation and BDT & Company, provides an innovative new approach to creating more opportunities for our students. Clinton High School alum, David Steward played a pivotal role in bringing rootEd Alliance to the district. The Clinton School District is one of only a few districts in the nation to be a part of rootEd Alliance.
cis students explore and research pumpkins
Third graders in Mrs. Patrick’s class dissected pumpkins last week.
Each group weighed their pumpkins, found the circumference, and took notes using adjectives to describe their pumpkin. Students estimated the amount of seeds they would find in their pumpkin, then enjoyed baking their seeds with a variety of seasonings.
Students will create Google Slide presentations explaining their observations and research to their classmates.

GET TO KNOW....sandy halbrook
Meet, Sandy Halbrook, a special education teacher at Clinton Middle School. Sandy once walked the halls of CMS as a student, back when it was Clinton High School. Sandy graduated from CHS in 1980. After living in Kansas from 1984-2011, Sandy returned to Clinton to help care for her parents.
This is Sandy's 3rd year as a special education teacher at CMS, where she currently provides the Special Education Resource Room for the school.
Sandy is the proud mom to two adult children. Her daughter, Elizabeth, lives and works in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. She enjoys CrossFit, weight-lifting, running, surfing, SCUBA, and yoga....so warm, sunny Puerto Vallarta is just the place for her! Sandy's son, Glenn, and his family live in Hillsboro, Indiana. Glenn and his wife, Katie, have four sons, ages 9, 5, 3, and 6 months. The boys call Sandy "The Big Nannie!"
When Sandy isn't at work she enjoys biking and SCUBA diving. She is already making plans to visit Costa Rica this summer where she will SCUBA dive and volunteer at the sea turtle conservatory.
"I love working for the Clinton School District because it is a fabulous school district, and we really care about our students! I am very thankful to be provided the opportunity to teach in my hometown!"
