School on Monday

Weather permitting, we hope to be back to school on Monday. An email will be sent ONLY if school is canceled. Information is also posted on the Allen ISD web.

Blackhawk Families

This past week, many of our families and staff members have encountered great challenges as a result of the weather. Some are still experiencing blackouts and a lack of water. Others are dealing with repair costs and damage to their homes. Some families have lost a week of paychecks and may not know how to pay their bills. However, we are a family and as such we are here to support each other. Please contact me if you need any support or are in need of shelter, water, or food.

Some of our children have also experienced some possible anxiety as a result of the blackouts and lack of resources. We will provide socio-emotional support lessons and a warm learning environment as our students return to classes. We hope that returning to "normal" on Monday will provide students and families much-needed relief.

The Boyd staff is committed to reducing any extra layers of stress to families during this time. For students that are learning At-Home, please do not stress over connectivity issues next week. We will all do our best to connect and get all the systems back-up and running. We will all give each other grace and be patient with each other as we come back together. Let's be extra kind and gentle with each other.

If you need a helping hand, reach out to me, and I will get you connected with support services. If you can give a helping hand, reach out to your neighbors. If you want to help, but don't know what to do, reach out to organizations such as ACO or email me. This is a time to come together and give to others in need.

I feel blessed to be part of this community! Wishing you all a warm and safe weekend!

Staffing Impacts on Changes to Instructional Model

Allen ISD understands that families may want to change their instructional delivery model selection during the school year. Due to the scheduling complexities inherent in both At-Home Learning and In-Person Learning, parents are asked to make a commitment for at least one full nine-weeks grading period.

Please note that adjustments in instructional delivery model selections across the district may impact teacher assignments and student schedules.

Staff may need to shift to align with new instructional model choices. Therefore, even students who do not change instructional models could experience a change to their teacher(s), course availability or class schedule as teachers are assigned based on the numbers of students and course requests in each environment. Elementary students making changes to their instructional delivery model selection may not be guaranteed to be assigned to their home campus based on staffing and grade level seat availability.

Information from PTA - Box Tops

Hi! I’m the Box Tops Coordinator for Alton Boyd Elementary School.

In the past, we have had many involved parents and educators bringing in their clipped Box Tops to help raise money for school field trips and necessary supplies.

I would love for you to join me in earning cash for our school by using the Box Tops app. It’s an easy way to make a difference. All you have to do is buy Box Tops participating products (like Cheerios!) and scan your grocery receipt. Box Tops are worth $.10 each and they add up fast! Twice a year, our school receives a check to help pay for whatever we need - equipment, supplies or experiences the kids love!

Use the referral code XCS06DDR when you sign up and you’ll get 30 Bonus Box Tops when you scan your first receipt now through 02/17/2021, while supplies last!

In Person Leaners - Do not send student to school with ANY COVID-19 symptoms

Daily Self-assessment

Everyone has to do their part to reduce the spread of COVID. Each day parents are asked to assess their students prior to sending them to school. The self-screening consists of parents answering questions regarding exposure to and symptoms of COVID-19. If your child or someone in the home has symptoms that may be COVID-19, please do not send the student to school. For example: If a parent or sibling has multiple symptoms and is being tested, please do not send the student until you have the result from the test confirmed negative. Contact the school nurse for guidance if you are not sure.

Students should not be sent to school if;

  • they have been in close contact with any person with a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 10 days (CDC updated this time from 14 days to 10 days)
  • they have been diagnosed with COVID-19 until released by the doctor, or
  • they exhibit any of the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit.

Students that have had close contact, been diagnosed with COVID-19, or are exhibiting any of the symptoms will need to communicate with Nurse Phillips at 972-727-0560.

PTA needs your help!

Due to our current COVID guidelines, the PTA has been unable to grow our membership as we have traditionally done in the past. Our school benefits greatly from the PTA’s membership income each year.

Please consider joining our PTA for the 2020-2021 school year at for $10. Once at the website, click on the white “Join PTA” in the middle of the screen and then use the drop-down menus to find our school. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Free and Reduced Lunch Application

It is an unusual year due to coronavirus disruptions. Nevertheless, one thing has not changed, parents need to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Application. This is important data because it can impact school funding from federal grants. The Title 1 federal grant provides our school with funding for additional staff and resources needed to meet the needs of all of our students.

If you qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch, please assist our school in receiving the needed funding to meet the needs of all of our students by completing the Free and Reduced Lunch Application.
