Notes from the Music Department
The music department is lucky to have been awarded a grant from RISCA Arts Talk. We had two groups participate in ArtsTalk events in April. On April 12th the orchestra had the opportunity to participate in a workshop with Maestro Francisco Noya (Assistant Director of the RI Philharmonic) where he worked with them on their spring concert music. On April 22nd the members of the choir participated in a workshop with Kim Pitts-Wiley, musical director at Mixed Magic Theatre and of the Exalt Choir. They learned a gospel chart that her group performs, and experienced a different way to learn choral music. Video of Choir performing "Ride on King Jesus"

News from the Guidance Department
Looking back, April was an extremely busy month for school counselors. Counselors met, individually, with students to select courses for next year. Additionally, counselors proctored the school day administration of the SAT for juniors on May 9th and the PSAT for sophomores on both April 10th and 11th. Vacation was a welcomed chance for students and counselors to “re-group” and counselors encouraged students to use this time to catch up on any Credit Recovery courses they may be working on this year. The return from vacation found counselors and seniors working together on finalizing graduation requirements-especially community service hours and academic expectations (artifacts)
May will continue to be a busy month, especially for seniors. We look forward to May 9th-Senior Portfolio Presentation Day. Seniors will have an opportunity to “shine” and show how proficient they are in meeting PBGR requirements. AP Testing begins May 7th. Counselors will be proctoring exams from May 7th through May 16th. Students have already been preparing with early morning review sessions with some of the AP teachers.
Dates to remember for the month of May include National Honor Society Induction Ceremony on May 9th at 6:30 pm in the East Auditorium. Academic Convocation will be held on May 16th at 7:00 pm in the East AuditoriumNAHS- Student's Rebuild 2019 Ocean Challenge
The NAHS hosted a school-wide community service project during the month of March. Over 60 students created artworks inspired by the world's ocean and the people who live closest to them facing urgent environmental challenges. The
students created over 170 2D and 3D artworks. The Benzos Foundations will donate $520.00 on behalf of Cranston East's for training coastal youth in ocean conservation and coral restoration. All artwork will be shipped to Seattle, WA where a national installation will take place later in 2019! Video to come!.
