Antigen Screening Testing - Why get tested regularly?
Why is our school doing Antigen testing for COVID-19?
Regular testing is a safe, effective way to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Many people with COVID-19, especially children and teens, don’t have symptoms but can still spread the virus, so regular testing helps find infections before they can spread to others.
Why should I get regular Antigen Screening Tests?
Here are some reasons why a person should regularly antigen test:
- Frequently visit an elderly person
- Frequently visit a person with an underlying condition (high risk)
- Have younger siblings at home who are not yet able to get vaccinated
- Piece of mind
- Possible exposure to a COVID positive person
- Prevent an asymptomatic COVID positive person to spread the virus
- You can still get COVID even if you are vaccinated (break through cases)
How and when can my student get tested?
Getting tested once a week or every three days after a possible exposure are suggested timelines for screening testing in schools.
Our school nurse, Corinne Roe, can easily and quickly conduct antigen testing in her office. Students can come down and see her during Extension, lunch, or before school. Parent permission is required before testing can occur (most students have forms on file already).
Beacon is also offering antigen testing (see link below), but parents must be present for their testing.
FNSBSD Partners with Beacon for COVID Testing
There are THREE Beacon Health. COVID-19 testing sites for all students and employees at West Valley High School (at the back of the building via the Staff Parking Lot), the Administrative Center, and North Pole High School. Each site will be staffed by two Beacon technicians between the hours of 8am and 5pm Monday thru Friday.
Appointments can be made at k12northstar.org/COVID or from the button on every school homepage

Updated Close Contact & Quarantine Protocols
The district’s Maintaining In-Person Learning During COVID-19 document, which describes the district’s COVID-19 protocols, has been updated to reflect the following changes:
- Removal of close contact tracing: The district will no longer be performing close contact tracing.
- Removal of quarantine requirement for close contacts with no symptoms: If a student or staff member has been exposed to someone who tests positive for COVID-19, they may continue to attend school and report to work as long as they have no symptoms. If an individual develops symptoms, no matter how mild, they will need to stay home and follow the Wellness Check for Students & Staff.
If an individual with no symptoms is a close contact to someone in the home and is not able to follow Public Health guidance to quarantine or isolate, testing is strongly recommended. A recommended testing schedule for a close contact is every three days for a 10 day period.
Any staff or student who tests positive for COVID-19 will continue to be required to remain home and isolate for 10 days after symptom onset or a positive test results. This change, however, allows close contact staff and students who remain symptom free to continue to attend school, and supports our primary mission: the education of students. The following layered safety measures will remain in place: vaccinations for those eligible, mask wearing inside school facilities, frequent hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, using available testing, increased social spacing, and cleaning of high touch areas.
